You need to be thankful it is the roos and not the Saints transplanted in the Island State.

With the troubles they are having,I can see 4-5 years down the bottom end of the ladder,that will really bring calls for a tassie team.Mabe even sooner

I’ve thought about that too. I mean - if we played 8 games in Tassie and the rest in Melbourne ... I can’t think why I’d be sh1tty about that. Unless we were no longer St Kilda.

The thing is .. the Tassie locals hate the idea of North being transplanted. They want their own team.

I reckon 18 teams is more than enough.

However, I suspect the league will want to go down the route of 15-minute quarters, more clubs, footy feasts, and games televised most nights as they do in the US with basketball. All to appease broadcasters.

If this happens, Gilligan risks killing the goose that laid the golden egg. The game will not resemble what we grew up with. A sort of a Big Bash League of football. A sugar hit with no substance.

We have only had a strong administration for a few years and they can only jump as high as the AFL say. The AFL will be all ears come next Monday when the challenge begins on answering questions that are only going to get louder, where is your revenue coming from and how will you pay down your massive debt.

Obviously this administration inherited the debt but rules have changed significantly in 2020 and the elephant in the room is where will the revenue come from as we crash deeper into what is looking like a very deep depression.

All this talk of war chests is so 2019.

The AFL has deliberately kept the bad news out of the headlines with it's control of the AFL media as it has been paranoid about any negative news while
working hard to just get this season completed but we will soon find out what changes are coming as soon as the final siren sounds on GF day.

Only trouble is there are no kangaroos in Tassie, only wallabies.

Bot then again, there are no real saints in Melbourne, plenty of demons though.

Any tassie team surely has to be the Devils? And in green red and yellow? Can't see both cities supporting anything else. North could relocate but would have to lose all identity. Maybe wear the dull blue style in heritage round.

It's not that simple. The Tassie pitch for their own team splits their games 50/50 Hobart and Launceston. It's a non-negotiable. Since the convicts first arrived - the north dislikes the south and vice versa. It's why the TFL failed. It has to be a whole of Tassie solution.

As for no interstate travel - I gather you've not spent much time in Tassie in Winter. Late May to September-ish is bloody freezing. As in snow. With not a whole heap else to do. In a nutsell - 21 straight days away each winter to play Bris/GCS and Port or Adel or Melb in Alice would be most welcomed.

This must be a question they think about.

I wonder because I see boutique games at boutique grounds as something quite possible.

I’ve always thought that Tassie needs two teams but operated and managed by mainland brother/sister clubs.

Heritage and roots goes way beyond regional economics.

A team representing the greater Hobart area AND a team representing the belt of towns Launceston, Devenport, Bernie, Wynyard etc.

These games would draw 6000-7000 spectators a week and yet potentially draw crowds on TV

The TN audience and the potential spin offs commercially, for Tasmanian businesses and their mainland co-sponsors could be significant.

Just say Port Melbourne was affiliated with the Hobart mob and say Glenelg (SA) was affiliated with the Northern group.

These affiliated clubs can lend support, make interstate relationships including sponsorships etc. players, IP etc.

The rest of us get to enjoy the heritage and genuineness (as opposed to the Gold Coast fake..not knocking them)

The TV audiences will reflect this.

I am not buying the lack of talent argument.

Things could turn quickly if it takes off. Look at women’s footy for instance.

It’s not beyond the realms of possibilities that we could one day be the Gold Coast Saints. We’ve got a fair few fans up there.

Anything is possible, but I’m pretty sure that crowds will be back by mid next year and hopefully the nightmare scenario doesn’t eventuate. As long as we play good footy and make the finals again, that will help the club with revenue from sponsorship and selling more merch and memberships.

Who knows? If Melbourne keep struggling on field what about a merger of Melbourne and the Suns?

All depends on the financial health of all clubs. If North plays in Tassie and secures a good financial deal...Let’s assume we are still heavily debt burdened at the end of 2022...Let’s also assume that the Gold Coast Suns are struggling on field, struggling to keep all their high end draft picks then the AFL could decide that the best strategy to stop the bleeding with that failed experiment on the Gold Coast is to merge the Suns and the Saints

If GWS have a couple of bad years on field then the AFL might send us to Sydney. We could become the Greater Western Saints

Leaving Tassie when we did IMO is the single most disastrous decision the club had made in my life time. I reckon if we hadn’t left we’d be finically strong and would have won the 09-10 flags though obviously that’s just an opinion obviously.

If there’s an opportunity to jump back in... I say take it
