Schadenfreude
Enjoy the knowledge that we were still a slight chance last night at half time.

Re: Schadenfreude
Haha. Good one. Collingwood are absolutely miserable tonight. Fumbling, second to the ball. They’re terrible

And we've finished 5th I believe.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Schadenfreude
Fifth would normally get you pick 14
BUT
AFL has donated pick 11 to Gold Coast as a bonus who have already on sold that pick.
Makes Saints pick notionally pick 15.
At least one lowly placed clubs is wanting to exploit the free agency compensation.
If they can push out an older player who attracts a large salary then they can gain a really good first round bonus.
Like Melbourne sending James Frawley to Hawthorn in 2009.
Resulted in Melbourne with picks 1 & 2.
They took Tom Scully and Jack Trengrove.
A kid called Dustin Martin went at pick 3.
Expect our pick to slip 1 or 2 places due to free agency.
Then Father/Sons & Next Geneartion queue jumping will impact.
Bulldogs will definitely be forced to trump a bid for Jamarra Ugle-Hagan.
But they will need to deploy a pick already before the Saints.
Richmond on the other hand will need to trump a bid for Maurice Rioli jnr and so jump ahead of the Saints in the pick order.
St Kilda will be lucky if its first round pick is 18 on the night.
That may be traded away if Jye Caldwell nominates the Saints.

Re: Schadenfreude
I've never understood the impact of Father/son/NGA picks. You trade them before the draft and generally won't pick the father/son/NGA player anyway. Am I missing something?

Re: Schadenfreude
Not at all
If the player you have pick #7 and wanted say Hunter Clark - and then some random player gets Father/Son selected - then you drop to pick #8 but hey Hunter Clark is still available.
Storm in a teacup. However Compensation picks are not!
The additional pick DOES dilute the draftees available for selection at the time.

Re: Schadenfreude
But if you want Joe Bloggs at pick 7 but Joe is part of the GWS academy, you can draft him but you can be gazumped by GWS using one or more picks that don’t add up to pick 7. You then get pick 8 and everyone else moves down by 1 pick as well.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Sun 11 Oct 2020 7:33amNot at all

Re: Schadenfreude
I agree - but Academy is different to Father Son - and Joe would NEVER have been available to us if part of the Academy and wanted by GWS.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 11 Oct 2020 8:11amBut if you want Joe Bloggs at pick 7 but Joe is part of the GWS academy, you can draft him but you can be gazumped by GWS using one or more picks that don’t add up to pick 7. Academy is a different issue to Draft pick selection.

Do the names Petracca and Brayshaw mean anything to you? Not sure how you could forget the draft that included Patrick McCartin. The Dees finished 17th in 2014 and were gifted pick 3 as a compo pick.

Re: Schadenfreude
The unfortunate thing about Collingwood losing is the vandalism bills faced by Councils and the increase in domestic violence that would have occurred last night.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.
