Re: Team v Giants
The Hawthorn game Kent was actually one of the few who lowered his eyes and found leading forwards. He is good when he gets it around the 50-60 metre zone as he does spot up players.
Disappointing against better sides though.
Nee!

Re: Team v Giants
I hope I don't offend here but Geary is only getting selected because he is captain. There are at least 4 players that I would select before him. Unfortunately our selectors have already shown they will not drop him. Lets just hope that Geary doesn't cost us the win. This situation was brought upon us by Richo and his obsession with mediocrity. If Geary is not "retired" by the end of THIS season then I will be asking some very embarrassing questions at the AGM later this year that Basset may find difficult to answer.fugazi wrote: ↑Thu 17 Sep 2020 8:57pm I'd love to hear an independent opinion about Gearys place in the team.
I know we have probably done it to death
But having a captain who is the least skilled player, a player that the opposition zone off so he DOES get the ball at kick ins, is a real concern.
I wish we could graft his attitude and commitment onto Carlisles body.

Re: Team v Giants
Danger Dan Hannebury and Jake the muss Carlisle back. I'm a happy Sainter.
I am a lot more confident now of winning this, especially with Roughhead back marshaling the troops for the first time in ages.
I expect another close one but we'll win this one.

So what was all the faux agonising about. Whether to give Jake a final game/new contract and/or unreliable Hannebery vs fit Phillips vs rusty Dunstan vs rusty DMac? Was last week a case of Hind preferred over Jake, surely not.
Anyway most of the team know how each other play; game on.

Re: Team v Giants
Emergencies might be important.
Savage
Dunston
Byrnes
Marsh
After last week I'd play any of them over Kent.

Perhaps we should have selected a headless chook then?johnearljames wrote: ↑Thu 17 Sep 2020 8:25pm Good ins.
Gabba a very short ground. Pace not as crucial at the Gabba.
No point running fast if you don't have the ball or tackle. A swing bowler & leg spinner are also useful at the Gabba, we have neither.
I copped a week's ban for likening a problem with St Kilda selection that is synonymous to a lady's hygiene product. Kent may very well be the 2020 poster boy.

Re: Team v Giants
Yes. Two tall key defenders would appear obvious but Ratten has rolled the dice with Wilkie and Battle and failed.
Not overly happy with Hannebery and would hate to lose the game if he can’t play the full four quarters. A fit Bytel would have been better. But again Ratten rolls the dice.

We’ve got to beef up midfield here why wouldn’t you bring in a HBF to release a Coffiel or Clarke ?.

Yep, Geary's selection tonight definitely down to Richo.SaintPelican66 wrote: ↑Thu 17 Sep 2020 9:17pmI hope I don't offend here but Geary is only getting selected because he is captain. Re: Team v Giants
Hannas is going to be like an on field coach. We need on field leadership and on field leaders who have experienced finals or at least look like they can handle the intensity and the finals like pressure. Ratts knows that he can’t rely on Seb, and Jack Billings.
Clark should get more time in the middle, but I wouldn’t be experimenting with Coff at this late stage of the year
Dylan Roberton!? ...it’s got me f***ed why you’d include a bloke in your leadership group and then decide not to play him during the year

Re: Team v Giants
So here's the deal defeat or draw with GWS and play finals.
Lose to GWS and St Kilda needs to keep two of Bulldogs, GWS and Melbourne beneath them on the ladder.
That means
Bulldogs win or draw against Fremantle they go ahead of St Kilda
GWS need to win by roughly 9 goals to go ahead of St Kilda.
Melbourne need to defeat Essendon and St Kilda lose to GWS with margins combined totalling a little more than 8 goals.
Bulldogs winning against Fremantle and Essendon tanking against Melbourne are our greatest threats.
Fremantle and Essendon are just playing for pride.
I hope the St Kilda saints get to play finals, otherwise the Noosa saints miss out.

Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

Re: Team v Giants
Yes, he would, but frankly I half hope he does not. He's had one or two good games so far. Since Round One 2019. One good game, ten duds, one good game, ten duds...sure looks great, doesn't it?
Conclusion to draw is this, we are in such dire shortage that we simply have no options. And that is pretty sad.
Even Geary would be better. Or Long.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Oppo fwds let him take a short pass because they know he'll either kick across ground short, or kick to their advantage.
They have enough time to set up either way.
For them, Gears is almost like an oppo fwd, because he gets involved in a scoring chain- for them

Kent to worple Greene ? And if you can find a clever sledge to make Coniglio cry that's ok as well - this is cut throat time (figuratively). Feign sincere regrets late.

Re: Team v Giants
I thought Bytel did OK in his games while Byrnes was quiet in his one game yet Byrnes is an emergency and Bytel is not listed. I am probably not cut out to be a selector.
