Re: Gws game
I find it amazing that the pundits are writing GWS off this week. Have they forgotten our recent form?. We'll need to be our absolute best to win, especially with Jones out. I saw them play last week, and although they lost, they looked better than us

Definitely no shoe in that's for sure & yeah our recent form is not filling me with a lot of confidence . If we play like we have over the last month I don't think we can win but who knows what St.Kilda will turn up on the day . Hopefully the St.Kilda that beat Richmond & Port earlier in the year

Re: Gws game
Their recent orm has been significantly worse than ours. They didn't make eight changes for nothing.
If we are anywhere near our best we will win.

Re: Gws game
Will need to be a team effort to win, we don't have the top liners like Greene, Whitfield, Kelly, Coniglio and Cameron and they don't have many like Lonie, Kent and Hind but they may realise them having a solid win will see Melbourne go in rather than them can only hope but truthfully we should have not been in this position.

Out:
Kent
Hind
Jones (hamstring)
In:
Hannaberry
Bytel
Carlisle
Possibly consider Marsh for Lonie (bigger body)
It won't happen but Roberton for Geary

We might struggle to contain their tall forwards - Cameron, Finlayson & Riccardi (if he comes back in)

Re: Gws game
The big difference between both sides is Toby Greene. If Toby wants to play, we lose. This will be Paton's greatest challenge. He wins, we win.

Re: Gws game
I can't believe we were favourites last week against WCE, nobhead, that just didn't make sense to me at all. I always want to win but, as for being favourites against WCE (another bogey side), someone must have been dreaming.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Gws game
Out: Kent, Hind, Jones
In: Dunstan, Hannaz, Carlisle, and most importantly - Roughhead!
I think we will see a dramatic shift in our game style with Ratts now being able to actually see the game unfold in the coaches box and what needs to be done. No offence to whoever has been in the coaches box but they aren't Ratten. Rough will resume the conduit role whilst ensuring our forwards understand what they need to do. Cameron has proven to be a really average coach and I'd like to think that Ratten is confident in himself to really expose that. Saints by 28 points

I like this a lot. Although listening to Seb Ross on SEN this morning ... it didn't fill me with confidence that Jake would play
Go you red, black & white warriors

Re: Gws game
GWS were horrible against Melbourne and Adelaide. We haven’t been flash though. I think something fishy is going on with GWS and there depth is not what it used to be. If they miss finals could be a mass exodus.

Re: Gws game
I honestly don’t think we would beat North Melbourne at the moment. Sorry to say. Honestly, how many teams would you be confident about beating now, with,,,
1) Membrey, King, down
2) Our lack of class midfield
3) Hapless forward set-up, hopeless small forward set-up
4) Game plan that try as we might, just is working for us.
5) Insistence on picking certain players defying rational thinking
6) No Gresh, Hanners, Dunstan,
7) Carlisle in the dog house

Re: Gws game
I wonder....pundits have had a thin year. Last season round ....they KNOW - just like you & me the Saints will fall (which sh1tz me so hard in 23 languages).
They stack the odds, everyone bets for the Sainters .....Saints lose big...betting mafia win PLUS "the fix" is on and they have their lads place big bets on GWS within an hour of game start....
Ta Da !!! Big payday.
But of course this never happens.

after hearing Ratts' presser I think both Jake and Hanners will play.

Re: Gws game
Interesting hearing Lyon analyse this game on FC thinks GWS A grade mid talent will get them across thee line said saints have been cut up by A grade quality (Gaff/Kelly) and GWS with Coniglio likely back in have superb talent in there...
Thinks our best chance is ruck domination and use Hill in transition
IMO we have to take the stuffing out of them early - score big early they will drop away.....let them in and stay close I think we’ll lose
I’m not sure who takes Green

Re: Gws game
I would think Paton gets first crack at Greene, but Greene does seem to be spending a bit of time in midfield, pretty close to a 50/50 forward/mid split.Teflon wrote: ↑Thu 17 Sep 2020 1:34am Interesting hearing Lyon analyse this game on FC thinks GWS A grade mid talent will get them across thee line said saints have been cut up by A grade quality (Gaff/Kelly) and GWS with Coniglio likely back in have superb talent in there...

The issue is (I think you mentioned it in a post a few days ago) that the predictable outcome is we come out breathing fire, have 15 inside 50s to 4 at quarter time, but only be up by a point. Then, as fate will have it, they will get an assy goal against the run of play which swings the momentum of the game, and it's as good as over.
The Saints are coming!

Re: Gws game
If Hanners gets a game and breaks down again, then Ratts should get the flick. We bring Hind back last game after being dropped for poor form, and does nothing, King comes back and does mostly nothing. Coming up to finals and selecting out of form players is not great coaching. We need some life in that forward line. Bytel needs to return as does Marsh I reckon

Re: Gws game
I actually don't think our midfield is as bad as some are claiming.
No doubt it is where we need to improve, but we regularly win clearances and Inside 50 stats, so it at least shows we are competing in that area.
Against WCE and Melbourne we should have iced those games with better kicking for goal (Not the midfields fault)
If we can manage to prise Caldwell and Williams out of GWS, we will form a very good midfield.
Hopefully the hamstring procedure on Hannas may actually see him give us value from here (obviously that is probably a naive hope)

Re: Gws game
I imagine De Boer will tag Steele, hoefully Jack can still the same outputs of recent weeks.
