Acres has more upside. He’s taller, stronger, younger, takes a good contested grab, actually tackles and breaks tackles, wins his own football ..and all for about half Hill’s price.

He's f****** lazy. Extremely talented but extremely lazy.
Always has a crack in the last four weeks of the year. Wonder why.

Re: Brad v Blake
Yes, as in my point earlier. Some passages in his play were pure brilliance and showcased his undoubted talent and strength. In a list that craved for this type of player, I was very disappointed Acres was moved on. Ghost Like is right...the draft pick we gave up for Hill was more than enough.
Acres would easily be in our best 22, would be really handy right now and has the ability to be an A grader and a genuine match winner. He's still quite young and we are going to regret moving him on.

Re: Brad v Blake
I'd rather a lazy, extremely talented player on the list at the moment than an old, injury-prone Hannebery or some others currently in our best 22.
Don't forget Martin was very lazy and wayward early in his career. Extreme talent, as you put it, is damn worth persevering with, especially when the 'sleeping giant within' is awakened. We gave up on Acres far too early in his development. Having Richo as a his coach did not help manifest his undoubted talent also.

That can be fixed.
That's two consecutive high impact games he's now played.
I'm beginning to think they messed this up.

Re: Brad v Blake
Hill's kicks look pretty, but both his kicking for goal and to teammates on Thursday left a lot to be desired.
15 Brownlow votes in 8 years in contending (mostly) sides tells a tale.
We paid for him roughly what a Fyfe would demand and he is not good enough to tie Fyfe's bootlaces.
It's only that the Hannebery trade was so much worse that the Hill one escaped the scrutiny it deserved!
The moneyball trades were great but the two big ticket items are the biggest f... up since Ball/Lovett!

Last game Hill 57% Efficiency/Blake 71 %
Metres gained 305 to 535
Just Saying that I believe this will turn out to be a mistake I think there were other ways we could have got the trade done, good luck to Blake & I hope Brad lifts us to a flag!

Yep, they back themselves and take the game on.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Thu 03 Sep 2020 12:26pm One thing I always liked about the way Acres played his football with us was the fact he was willing to draw a couple of tacklers and always looked to move the ball to the advantage of our players, mostly forward. He was one of the few who did. Clark & Coffield both have that trait.

Keeping someone like Kent on the list and letting go of Acres was nonsensical. D Mac gets a 3 year contract and has not been considered for one game this season.
It's decisions such as these that epitomize mediocrity within our club.

Not a finals player. He would not stand up in big games or finals and is too inconsistent.
Hill, who has played in premiership quality sides is a much better and skilled winger.
Can you name the other players at St Kilda who would stand up in finals? There are some obvious ones, not too many though.

Acres has always the ability to produce these types of games. Stringing them together is the issue.

He's not alone on that front. Take out Steele and I'm struggling to find too many more Saints who are consistently at standard week in, week out.CURLY wrote: ↑Mon 14 Sep 2020 4:32pmPADDLEPOP1001 wrote: ↑Mon 14 Sep 2020 4:05pmAgainst the Tiges 78% & 478 that ok?CURLY wrote: ↑Mon 14 Sep 2020 8:41amPADDLEPOP1001 wrote: ↑Sun 13 Sep 2020 12:21am Last game Hill 57% Efficiency/Blake 71 %

Those games that Acres can produce are simply pipe dreams for some in our current 22.

Re: Brad v Blake
What if Longmuir is just a better coach than Alan R and Blake likes WA weather for all his injuries. We can't say he wasn't persevered with. And we are comparing apples and oranges. Trades are supposed to be win / win, not win / loss anyway aren't they? Brad is not a loss for us, just hasn't met our high expectations. Which might be inflated for a group that hasn't seen a lot of class in a smaller player since Milney pulled the pin. Good luck to Blake; all strength, speed, slick hands and step to Brad. And straight kicking from close range.

Re: Brad v Blake
A big reason we got Hill is that he was happy to come to us. As did Hannas and Carlisle, but both were players with issues. Though really wanted Carlisle too.
Most "names" have not wanted to join us.
Where Hill's partner wanted to live gave us an enormous advantage.
We then did what was required to get him to the Saints (admitted overs). Hopefully other good players noticed this and it will hold us in good stead with our targets this year. Hopefully too we will make finals as that will help to make us a more attractive club to join.
