Ryan Abbott
Well well well.
Let’s hope that’s the last time we see him in the RW&B.
Got a lucky goal at the end due to a Hawks stuff up and nice work by Superman, but he’s a VFL player from next season.

I'd rather hope your access to the internet has issues and therefore you can stop posting such horrible things but each to their own I guess.

Re: Ryan Abbott
He was very ordinary today but I don't think you can say he's finished on 1 game. It was his 1st game in a very ordinary game of AFL . I will give him another chance , maybe not this year but who knows what injury problems we might encountersaintspremiers wrote: ↑Sun 06 Sep 2020 7:05pm Well well well.

I believe it was his first game for the year? I guess the extraction from the hibernation capsule didn't get his motor functions going to peak efficiency straight away. (*note:these chaps are good, but not robots).

Re: Ryan Abbott
Wow I was surprised just how poor he actually was in the ruck. He got no where near it and was even beaten by OBrien - if he is our only back up we need to find another.

Re: Ryan Abbott
Well at least we now know that if Ryder, or Marshall, get injured that we just go with the one ruck.

Being the optimist, I'm hoping Abbott will mature like a lot of big guys.
Whilst his contribution was minimal, at least he kicked that crucial goal like a pro.

He looked both relieved and slightly sheepish when he kicked the sealer...but at least he kicked it.
Had a mare and looked put of his depth.

Re: Ryan Abbott
Somebody reported on here the Jack Bell was looking OK, looked good on the video when he was drafted but makes Max King look like the Michelin man so Abbott may only be filling in until Jack fills out.

Re: Ryan Abbott
He was only given a 1 year deal so I I'd say that was his first and last game for the RW&B. Most likely his last game of AFL which is sad but a reality based on the 150 or so players who will be in the same boat come the end of the year with clubs having to reduce lists by up to 10.
We have 21 players out of contract in a months time so it we shouldn't have too much trouble deciding who goes and who stays. Actually we are in a good position on that score.

Re: Ryan Abbott
He has kicked one more goal than all of us put together will ever kick in a St Kilda jumper
Just for that fact he should be celebrated!!
PS - goals kicked after the game on the ground 25m out in the right forward pocket weaving in and out of 9 & 10 year olds don't count

Re: Ryan Abbott
I think after the first quarter when he couldn’t get near the ball in a ruck contest Ratts decided it was best to keep him on the bench. Every time the cameras panned to our bench, Abbott was there. Not sure of his game time but felt that Ratts lost faith in him after that 1st quarter

Re: Ryan Abbott
And that is a perfect example of the significant challenges posed by the Astersik Cup. A player can overcook in the first 15 mins of a game just through pure over excitement and then there is the physical aspect which can see a player blow up in the first sprint or contest and after hitting the wall you are useless for the rest of the game.Moods wrote: ↑Tue 08 Sep 2020 9:52am I think after the first quarter when he couldn’t get near the ball in a ruck contest Ratts decided it was best to keep him on the bench. It's the biggest risk with selecting players who haven't played this year or who may have only played one or two games, you just can't step into an elite comp and expect not to blow up.
It's surprising how many fans don't get this when talking about selection and are carrying on like it's a normal year for selectors.

Yep quite amazing that Abbott coolly went back and slotted that pressure goal in the last quarter ....... 2.5 quarters after he had blown up into a million pieces

Re: Ryan Abbott
Bit tough on him. Called in at the last minute, only casual scratch matches to tune up, and suddenly he's in speeding traffic. Certainly had a mare, but he did slot that vital goal, and seemed to settle down a bit later on. I think he is better than that. His stats for previous games indicate that.
