Been a great acquisition for St Kilda and deserves to be our next captain.

Tough, skilful and durable. More improvement left in him too.
Sorry Josh but how does he deserve to be our captain? He was not even voted to be in our leadership team!!!
Ooookaaaaay...hmmmmmm

Let me think

Why would you name someone captain who is able to inspire his teammates and is able to deliver under pressure and busts his guts during games to contest and run and defend and make an impact on the scoreboard deserve to be captain?

Why would someone who is - in all likelihood - about to be named in the All Australian team for 2020 be named Saints captain?

Why would someone who is close to 100 games with a good level of experience and a role model on the training track and a role model off the track deserve to be captain?

Why would St Kilda FC give the captaincy to someone who performs well in front of camera in his interviews and is growing in maturity deserve to captain?

Why would a player who has been top 3 two years running in the Trevor Barker medal ( and probably wins it this year) plus is consistently our best player every week deserve to be captain?

I’ll be stuffed if I know! Lets’s give to Jack Lonie or maybe recruit Paddy McCartin and give him the captaincy because he’s such a nice fellow

Whether he wasn’t voted in at the start of this calendar year is not the issue. I love Gears, but I think it’s time for change and Steele deserves it now and we should seriously consider a new captain for 2021. Whether Steele wants the role or whether he’d continue to perform at his best once he’s appointed are considerations for Jack personally and for the footy department and senior coach early next year
And what would that do to morale and selection integrity if someone not in the Leadership group comes over the top of them and gets the captaincy?

If Rory Sloan were to join us next year or some other midfielder with renowned leadership qualities would you say he can’t be made captain. When Judd went to Carlton and was made captain was it the wrong decision?

Allistair Clarkson convinced Shane Crawford that he’ll play better footy and be more value to the team if he concentrated on his footy. He convinced the team that Sam Mitchell should take over from Van Denberg. He convinced his team that they could win premierships without Buddy and they did

If Ratts, Lethlean, Roughy and other leaders and coaches in the club can’t convince our players of the positives then they should all resign.

You are failing to understand the dynamics of a footy club.
We will have to agree to disagree.

It's a fair question - why wasn't he voted into the leadership group? Fans seem to love him but what about his teammates?

Most posters on here seem to believe you just make your best player captain. Unfortunately that is not how it works in a workplace and especially at a footy club.

The problem with cliques and the problem with people afraid of change is that they are sometimes trying to selfishly protect themselves or someone they know.

We all recognise the politics involved. The whole notion of a ‘workplace’ is that you do as you are instructed by your employer.

Any leader or manager worth his salt understands that ‘change’ has to be managed. If the footy club does not see what is clear to people on the outside, then maybe they should all just FO and bring in a new CEO and new directors. Steele has leadership qualities that will assist this club to go all the way. They need to assist Jack and encourage Jack and encourage the team to embrace change.

The footy department along with the coach, CEO and directors must plan for transition and not procrastinate until the the decision is forced upon them

hahahahahaha

The club does see what we see (even if we pleb fans are outside the inner sanctum). Ratts and Lethlean and Roughy see it. Ratts has asked Jarryn to take Jack under his wing and join the leadership meetings

Good to know! although you've made up the bit about ratts asking Geary to bring him into the leadership meetings. It sounds like Geary's call.

So make a call on a captain even if 40 players don't want him. Yeah no worries mate.

If you are going to post stuff like that insinuating rubbish about a player, you better back it up

Name half of them if you have any integrity or if you want anyone to read anything you post

Did you read this?

"Skipper Jarryn Geary has taken Steele under his wing, inviting the 24-year-old to sit in on leadership group meetings this season.

And it hasn’t gone unnoticed. Ratten has spoken glowingly of the impact Steele is having on his teammates...."

How would you feel at work if you had done all the hard yards, were in the leadership team and then some new guy just comes over the top and gets the promotion?

Riiiiiiigght...Now I know what your argument is all about

So Sebby should get it purely because ‘he’s done the hard yards’? I think the problem with a clique mentality is that you can get stuck accepting the status quo. We want to climb the ladder. The change is coming and without change St Kilda will not become a contender

Don’t fluff. Just spit it out! Surely it’s not Membrey or Dyl Roberton you’re referring to.!?

I think with Butler, Hill, Jones and some of our youth going through the middle this year and replacing Sebby or using the footy better than Sebby it’s a difficult sell. How would the players feel if their vice captain is a player who currently looks like he’s being replaced by other options at stoppage and centre bounces (Sincs, JB, Clark, Gresh, Bytel, Butler, Long etc) and yet he is named captain?

In other words you don’t appoint someone who has plateaued with his footy and doesn’t hurt the opposition. I hate to tell you this but the club and team success is more important than the ego of a vice captain
