Winning against Melbourne is critical for a finals birth
Goes without saying I suppose but our run home is tough
Critical we beat Melbourne and Hawthorn
West coast I don’t think is likely
GWS 50/50
So that means 2 wins at minimum, 3 at best
3 wins we are certainly in the finals
2 wins I think we are likely
1 win I doubt we scrape in
Thoughts?

Re: Winning against Melbourne is critical for a finals birth
It’s quality not quantity.
Melbourne and GWS are the ones we need to win... not just to get the points but to deprive it from those two fighting for the 8.
Plus the other reality is that if we can’t beat them, we pbly have no real business being in the finals.
My current view is that I’m scared of Geelong and WCE. Collingwood to a degree though they looked more formidable earlier.
Everybody else in the 8 or thereabouts I’m confident we can beat on the day.
We’re pbly about 6th ranked overall IMO but with a bit of luck I reckon we could take it all. We’ll see how we go

Tend to agree. If we can’t beat Melbourne we don’t deserve to be in the finals
I’m predicting a solid win today albeit I had an ominous dream of us losing...that said the last time I dreamt about us winning we got thrashed so I’m back on!

We should have put in a better performance last week, and a few players were off their game early - one being Carlisle. This game is one where we need everyone going at it from first bounce- and hitting the scoreboard, as the forward half is not really clicking yet IMO

Re: Winning against Melbourne is critical for a finals birth
This year is about just playing finals. I don’t give a rats toss bag who we beat to make the eight or if we win a final or not. Obviously it would be great to make the semi’s but that’s the upper point of expectations.skeptic wrote: ↑Tue 25 Aug 2020 11:04am It’s quality not quantity.

8 consecutive seasons of not playing a single final means this year any final is a bonus and should be seen as a game of celebration

Is a finals birth the same as a finals berth!!

Re: Winning against Melbourne is critical for a finals birth
Agree its an important game. I think the Richmond game v WCE showed the Eagles are a completely different team in QLD. No home crowd and umpire advantage brings them back to our level and gives us a better chance of an upset.
With a bit of luck I think we can go close to winning the next 4 games and go into the finals with some momentum. With even more luck we get Hannebrey & Gresham back before the finals.

Re: Winning against Melbourne is critical for a finals birth
We are so punch drunk we are still frightened of losing to Melbourne even though its clear we are a five goal better side, at least. Dropping Carslise a year ago would not have been a serious option - our list has improved markedly as has the coaching. I imagine Traeger Park conditions will be slippery due to nighttime moisture, we bring in a ground level player; we will be critical of Max for not being able to always grab the bar of soap pill, we will be critical of every less than perfect move of J. Billings, S. Ross and J. Geary. We are never convinced until the siren goes and we are in front that we will win - because the Club has a poor relationship with Lady Luck - and her companion good management. Sure the bookies think this is an even game and we may lose - but I really enjoy watching our 2020 team and wish them all strength, bounce of the ball and a fair go from the officials. Go Sainters!

Its a dry air in the centre and only down to 10° overnight so hopefully the conditions suit us, not too slippery & a fast track.

Either way, given we have been out of the finals for so long, it's going to be a laboured wait...

Gee that could backfire spectacularly. At times over the past few games our players looked like they were playing with concrete boots.

If we lose... I’d like it noted that I expressed concerns RE selection at the time
If we win well... would prefer that nobody bring point a) up again

Why would it backfire? We have had a good break.
And if we have to run hard, our next opponent the Hawks is not till Sunday 6th Sep, but the Hawks also have another game on Tuesday 1 Sept. So we should have the edge no matter how tired we get against the Dees.

It backfires if the Dees run us off our legs, it's interesting that they have overturned a 3rd of their side.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Sat 29 Aug 2020 5:52pmSecret Kiel wrote: ↑Sat 29 Aug 2020 4:12pmGee that could backfire spectacularly. Is running a team off their legs a legitmate plan? Hopefully we've got other clubs in the bag because if running them off their legs is our one wood then I'm really concerned.

Re: Winning against Melbourne is critical for a finals birth
I would be more inclined to worry if the backfire is that there talls cause is huge problems.
Backline hasn’t looked as convincing as it did earlier in the year...
If we dominate play but they are able to make the most of opportunities... we’ll many a loss has occurred that way.
Not saying that will happen as I don’t know Melbourne we’ll enough to explore the strategy.
Feels as though we’re significantly less flexible in structure.
Was very unimpressed with Kent and Sinclair last week... both have stayed in which worries me. Don’t like relying on the smalls like this
