Marquee Match
In light of last weeks Dreamtime game and indigenous round, St.kilda's rich history of indigenous players and following up recent stories involving Robbie Muir and the clubs response. Is this an opportunity to get a foot in for a 'marquee' game in Alice Springs (like this week) or Darwin and make it a real event..
We've had a habit of stuffing up 'blockbuster' or alternative opportunities e.g. Tassie, NZ, China and Good Friday..
But that shouldn't mean we give up and it will not only help us spread our brand but if done properly it could really benefit the local community aswell.
Who would be the most appropriate team to play though?
Anyway, just a thought,
A blockbuster game in Melbourne would obviously be the ultimate goal but im not sure if/how that will happen..

Re: Marquee Match
I like the idea as long as we make money out of it. I would want it to be a home game in Alice Springs against an interstate team. Then each year would be against a different interstate team to keep it fresh and maybe build local support for us. The side benefit of this is one less unprofitable game a year at Marvel.realdeal wrote: ↑Thu 27 Aug 2020 7:28pm In light of last weeks Dreamtime game and indigenous round, St.kilda's rich history of indigenous players and following up recent stories involving Robbie Muir and the clubs response. Re: Marquee Match
Agree it would be great if we could get it off the ground. Would certainly travel to watch a game and had plans to head to Darwin when the 2020 fixture was originally announced and we were scheduled to be playing Gold Coast at TIO.
Also agree though that it would most likely need to be against the interstate clubs that don't draw crowds when played at Marvel, which may somewhat diminish the importance and therefore detract from the "marquee" element of it.
And based on the previous poor performances in these type of games and efforts that you mentioned (NZ, China and especially that Good Friday debacle) not sure if the league will be jumping onboard to make it happen for us anytime soon unfortunately. Maybe after a few more years playing like we have been for the majority of this year and we might get a look-in though.

Re: Marquee Match
good idea
don't know if cash should be the driver on this one
(certainly gotta pay its way though)
do it for the connection and saying thanx
to the mobs for our game
and their players who excell at it
have to be indidgy round each year (?)
+ bonus practice on big ground
