Is umpire Umpire Foote a cheat or just blind
Butler marks Neale comes in and pushes him over. Foote one meter away does nothing.
How does this happen and it basically set the tone.

Re: Is umpire Umpire Foote a cheat or just blind
It happens too often for Foote to be blind. He has a preconceived perspective which means he will see things in a particular way each time. Very hard to even get a fair go in 50/50 contest when the viewing perspective is already set. Foote is not blind he is ....

Worse was the character assassination of Butler by the commentators. It was a genuine push for no apparent reason, yet all they could say was “not a good look from Butler” “he’d like to have his time over”.

Butler took an absolute flop to try draw a 50, that shouldn’t be paid, tried and failed, move on and kick the goal (which he did)

Commentators covered themselves in glory today. Didn't look for replays that showed throwing. Barely commented on Paton's hit to the head.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 23 Aug 2020 6:59pm Worse was the character assassination of Butler by the commentators.

Re: Is umpire Umpire Foote a cheat or just blind
It looked a hard enough push to put him on the ground.
Should have been 50 but he kicked it anyway.
Channel 7 commentary was Brisbane biased.

You cannot touch a player after a mark has been awarded if you weren’t in the contest. Clear 50 just blatant cheating.

Neither Brisbane nor Saints are regarding as particularly 'high flying' teams in spite of what the ladder says. So we stil have to earn quality umpires. We have to put up with the quality of #2. I don't know if he 'hates' the Saints but his free kick count this season tells the story of interpreting the rules in a particular way in St Kilda matches.

He’s not allowed to even touch him or it’s 50.

'You cannot touch a player after a mark has been awarded if you weren’t in the contest.'
Currently the game is all about dishing out on 'acting'. Whenever there is something else to crack down on other that what the rules say, the book gets thrown out the window. Interpretation or dislike of acting then controls what is happening, not the book of AFL rules.

Then there’d be fifty 50m penalties a game.

Re: Is umpire Umpire Foote a cheat or just blind
Absolutely a 50m. I laughed at the Lions player and thought "what an idiot", he just comes in from no where and pushes Butler, easy 50m... regardless of whether Butler went over or not. Just like walking over the mark, it's one of the easiest calls.
But they didn't pay it..... I don't know what f!@#ing game I'm watching anymore! What are the umps doing? That's the question.

Re: Is umpire Umpire Foote a cheat or just blind
The push was certainly hard enough to push him to the ground and should have been 50.
The commentary was disgusting to suggest otherwise.
Foot only paid us one free for the game and interestingly that was probably a fortunate one for us.

If you push someone who is standing stationary in front of you totally flat footed with feet in the same lateral plane as their body - they have almost no resistance to a front on push.
Give it a go.
Wait till your wife is standing still facing you flat footed - give her a modest shove - and see what happens.
Try it tonight!

50. Contact was there and not neccssary. Soft probably but the contact was well after the mark. Don't get started with the hands in the back and blocking in marking contests. Same as Cats do. That's why both are top 4.

Watch his legs when he gets pushed.Enrico_Misso wrote: ↑Sun 23 Aug 2020 7:44pmIf you push someone who is standing stationary in front of you totally flat footed with feet in the same lateral plane as their body - they have almost no resistance to a front on push.

We’re not soccer, he tried to get a 50 but it didn’t work, fair enough to give it a go, I’d be filthy if the roles were reversed and that was paid, move on and kick the goal.

Re: Is umpire Umpire Foote a cheat or just blind
It was fifty.
The free we got in the third quarter to Rowan was a bit weak.
But, as is most often the case in an interstate game, it's the frees that are not paid that are more of the problem (about four push outs in a marking contest).
I actually thought umpire 12 was worse.
In the end, our backline was too weak, with only Jake being able to take an occasional contested mark. Nick Coffield took some marks in the last quarter but that was after Brisbane put a spare man in defence and he was our loose man in defence.
The coach made a bad error in the last two minutes. For some reason, Dan was off the ground. They called for Dean to come off, which he did, but it was in the middle of throw in ( which he ran through) and so we had one man less around the ball. They cleared and we lost our last chance.

You would not be filthy. You would bend over backwards to defend an umpire who made a decision against us.The_Dud wrote: ↑Sun 23 Aug 2020 7:50pmWatch his legs when he gets pushed.Enrico_Misso wrote: ↑Sun 23 Aug 2020 7:44pmIf you push someone who is standing stationary in front of you totally flat footed with feet in the same lateral plane as their body - they have almost no resistance to a front on push.

And can we get a detailed analysis of Butler’s legs? I’m not sure what the significance is.

Re: Is umpire Umpire Foote a cheat or just blind
The more blatant error was the free-kick that was missed in the third against the Brisbane player directly in front when he got tackled and dropped the ball.
The other bad miss was when Kent was pushed in the back at the throw in.

We got the s*** end of the stick in the game today. The umps missed so many holding the ball calls.

Responding to Enrico’s post, he got pushed and buckled straight at the knees. If you get pushed hard with your feet as he said then you stumble backwards and then fall.
He tried to score a 50 and it didn’t work, fair play, move on. That’s something I’d expect to see on the soccer pitch, I don’t like it on the football field.
