So the same 26 as last week except Savage in for Long
And we know that Byrnes and Ryder are in the 22, so 2 out including Long
The message of change including that some with experience were under pressure appears to not be the case
So the pressure is on to win, because it may be the last chance for a couple if they continue to rely on their reputation and do not contribute to a successful outcome
Adelaide is bottom
The speculative hope is that Byrnes makes an impressive debut giving the selection panel the appetite to select Bytel (so improving our midfield) and that Long returns to a dynamic and dangerous defensive half dozen

Paton, Battle, Byrnes, Sinclair are my tip for the I/C.
Lonie & Marsh to be the sacrificial lambs plus Long.
Quite a joke to be honest. If Paton becomes a scapegoat for Ross & Geary I'll literally upchuck into my mouth.
Is that a covid-19 symptom.

Looks to me changes are,
Long and Marsh out
Ryder and Byrnes in.
All that crap about Gears and Seb being omitted was just that. Crap.
I don't think many really expected it. But I'm guessing if there isn't a big turn around in performance this week then one of them will go next week.
You don't drop the Captain and B&F winner in a knee jerk reaction. Marsh or Seb isn't much of a choice, they were both below par but with Hanners a chance next week Seb will be keen to pick up his act, now accountability seems to be creeping into the coaches language.

I've followed St Kilda long enough to know the phrase "a big turn around in performance this week" is nothing but papering over cracks that are a long way from knee jerks. Especially when the club express their disappointment in their senior players.
If we'd been playing Port this week, their narrative may have been different. Whether Lonie, Marsh, Paton deserve a spell becomes irrelevant when you look at how the "senior players" perform in capitulations.

Making Geary captain means he has to be picked every week regardless of form, and regardless of if there’s an appropriate matchup for him.
I’m hoping Long, Marsh and a few others out for Ryder, Byrnes, Savage and whoever else.
I disagree, dropping the captain makes a statement and a man like Geary would / should own that. It actually may be the jolt or release the playing list needs. Who knows?

Let's face it. Seb Ross in full flight, using short disposal and gathering ball in support around congestion is what we need. It is clear that Geary and Ross are leaders by default but they are both capable of a lot better. Getting them to produce it is the required result.
Paton should be safe. I don't like Marsh's chances. With runs on the board, Seb gets more time to improve. Marsh, a big bodied player, was challenged with minutes on the ball last week. He used his body bit could produce with the ball, team balance sees him miss out for mine.

All this carry on about Ross and Geary - what about Hill?
This is true. The carry on is about the senior players letting us down. In my opinion that's our leaders, ones who have been at St Kilda longer than a minute.
Hill's output is that of an $80K a year player, not $800K.
Is Lethlean the common denominator at selection over the past few years. Are the leaders and highly paid protected by his influence? I hope not, that would be worse than Hill's form.

Seb had 12 possessions, Marsh 3. Marsh had to go.
Seb plays where the action is.
12 possessions is not good enough when you're a midfielder. Especially if you're going at an efficiency rate of 58% and cough up four turnovers.

While there is no arguement to defend Marsh other than endeavour, Seb's 12 possessions in a heat map which resembled Tasmania on the Australian map wasn't stunning from a 2 x B&F winner. Port were keen to leave him loose on the rebound from half back and close down the space around his very predictable delivery. I'll accept he did more than Marsh. But his pressure acts wouldn't have drawn soft drink up a straw and his ball use was an advantage to the oppo game plan.

Maybe his four tackles saved him.
He really needs to step up this week.
Spent little time playing as an on baller I believe. But yes, he does need to step up this week. Big time.

Admittedly Seb had what was from him a poor game. One of very very few, I might add.
Yes. He has the runs on the board and while we can call in Bytel and Byrnes as much as we like, Seb, at his best, will hold them back for a couple more years. I hope he has a blinder this week. He has been resilient in one of the club's poorest eras and is certainly capable of playing consistent best 22 football.
either Geary goes back pocket n Paton role and Sinclair in
or
Geary goes half forward and tags Laird ( Johaneson type role) and Savage comes in across half back instead.
