Well, this game is certainly going to say a lot after what was dished up in round 1.
Almost 'season on the line' kind of stuff.

Re: Together we rise. Boys ready to go.
What do people expect, the Mickey Mouse Asterisk Cup is a terribly compromised and and unfair playing comp. The prospect of lifting a cup up in anything less than a packed MCG is the anti-dream.
The symbol of how brain dead we've become is cardboard cutouts in the grandstands, and the even more astounding point about that is people paid for the privilege.
All I hope for is that none of our players get injured bad enough to disrupt them from being in excellent shape for when the proper comp starts in 2021.

11 new players and a new coach - not allowed to train together, and even before round 1 they were training in groups of 6. I don't see how there's a hope in hell that we'll gel for at least a month.

All those issues you point out though shouldn't affect an AFL players ability to kick a ball straight, and that's our biggest problem.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Fri 12 Jun 2020 5:45pm11 new players and a new coach - not allowed to train together, and even before round 1 they were training in groups of 6. No, but they could make us completely uncompetitive in the short term.The_Dud wrote: ↑Fri 12 Jun 2020 5:52pmAll those issues you point out though shouldn't affect an AFL players ability to kick a ball straight, and that's our biggest problem.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Fri 12 Jun 2020 5:45pm11 new players and a new coach - not allowed to train together, and even before round 1 they were training in groups of 6. Hoping this in the inverse of a "training the house down" observation, which often sees us fall in a heap on the day! Hoping they were foxing you Tony. Go Saints!

Given all the x factors isn't it all the more intriguing - and as we don't expect to play in GF, as long as there is incremental improvement over the next 16, wouldn't that be good. Last night's game was scrappy, understandably, but all seemed to be fair dinkum; the sound of those tackles and body clashes was gladiatorial on a cold, slippery night. Even the umps looked nervous.

No need to worry Saynta. The amount of times we trained the house down in the past 6 years and ended with our pants down are too numerous to mention. Let's hope for reverse & leave the worrying to S*K.

Let's think we are 3-3, playing Footscray, and the bulldogs and us have had multiple mutiral stab wounds to the heart. This is the Max Houghton Cup. Declared in the name of all things that matter. (Big shout out to Maxy!!l)
It is almost a "Slum Derby"...yep, its the slum Derby alright. Colonial Stadium for us...but never mind
. Suddenly, I feel we will win!! Sitting on a yatai after my third had nothing to do with it.. come on Saints. I'm sorry Dunstan, I like the team, you will be back!! Come on Saints!!!

Re: Together we rise. Boys ready to go.
I'm certainly not worrying about how we perform on the footy field in the Asterisk Cup other than I hope our players don't take it too seriously and impact thier preparation for the start of proper season in 2021.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Fri 12 Jun 2020 7:56pmNo need to worry Saynta. Having said that if we perform badly in the Asterisk Cup then they will come for us hard and seriously question our sustainability so whilst I have little passion for us to be the winner of the Asterisk Cup it would still be helpful when it comes time to justify our existence to the Banks.

Could be or maybe we just play much worse than those times when we trained well.SemperFidelis wrote: ↑Fri 12 Jun 2020 6:31pmHoping this in the inverse of a "training the house down" observation, which often sees us fall in a heap on the day! Hoping they were foxing you Tony. Go Saints!
As an aside, being contrarian doesn't necessarily mean the exact opposite.
I think it's just superstition and I don't think it means that much.

I've paid the club some money and purchased an extra membership, so what they do with it I'll leave it with them.Secret Kiel wrote: ↑Sat 13 Jun 2020 1:26pmGhost Like wrote: ↑Sat 13 Jun 2020 10:14am Appreciate***that***S*K*

Besides S*K, I'm too busy trying to help you with a menu for your Hard Coyote Ugly AFL Rock style restaurant. What do you think? We include the following...
Roo Burger
Secret Kiel Veal
Robbie Muir Skewer
Plugger Pancakes
Banger & Mash
Ratten Mouse Pie
Penne Dal Santo
All washed down with a GT Bitter.

Plugger and Jeff Dunne driving down from Ballarat in 1983.
Plugger wants pancakes.

Re: Together we rise. Boys ready to go.
That’s fine.
As results have shown already this is a practice match round but for points.
Maybe Footscray also trained very poorly, in which case we will have a low scoring close dour slogfest.
If Footscray though are ready, we will definitely lose by 10 goals.
That’s the new normal.

Re: Together we rise. Boys ready to go.
And they did.
They can train like that every training session AFAIC.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
