Rubbish. My views on the tosser are that he was an ordinary coach as I have expressed above and which is evidenced by his eventual failures and also that he is a prick as evidenced by the way he left the Saints and wormed his way to Freo. To entirely different things.
That's not too difficult to understand, is it?

I never said that Eddy played in the 2009 grand final.aaron82 wrote: ↑Tue 07 Apr 2020 4:38pm People forget that we were 23 inside 50s up on Geelong at half time of the Grand Final. Still finished +16. Eddy didn’t get a game in the 09 GF side either. I’m not sure Ross can be blamed for Schneider missing from the point of the square, McQualter from 20 out, Milne not making the distance when he attempted to skid one through in the second quarter, the list of missed chances was enormous.
In my view, we were poor against the dogs mainly due to the weeks rest from the 1st finals win. Most teams who have the break are generally off the boil, it happens every finals series.
In 2010, the night Riewoldt shredded his hammy in round 3 against Collingwood hurt badly. Coupled with a lot of our intel going with Hudgton & Ball made it a big challenge.
Ross made a lot of errors particularly the leaving of Ball on the bench in 09 but at the same time he & the team were dreadfully unlucky.
Ross left the club in a very poor state. A lot of it was his doing but as someone earlier alluded our salary cap was stretched with the top 12 taking up 60%. I question Matthew Drain & the Footy First board in this space

Let’s not misconstrue the point here.
We could have won both matches
We should have won both matches
I thought we were going to win both matches
Along the way... many forumites pointed out things that were concerning or odd
Individually they weren’t crippling as evidenced by the results... it’s hardly visionary or revisionists theory to see that it could have been done even better

For starters Geel outscored Hawthorn in the last three quarters in 89.

Only 2 more visionaries required to get the percentage to shift another 0.001%.
This thread could also help develop derived data from the core sample size to also compile the metrics for the "many voices" and "growing chorus", or the newly introduced, "a few people", "some conversation", "the seemingly silenced", and also "the small but very vocal".
Who knows, from there we could unlock the true meaning behind other mysterious Trumpisms like, "the quiet supporters" and "lots of people are talking about this".
However a full forensic study may be required to unravel the full meaning behind the most puzzling of all insights into a game that happen over 10 years ago and that is the following statement:
"Not particularly wanting to weigh in as this topic has been done to death but criticisms/concerns were being voiced".
It's believed that before any meaning can be learned from this perplexing statement, a long and intensive unravelling of the 5 paragraphs and 1000 word essay before it will be required. This could prove extremely challenging considering the considerable intrinsic contradiction within the statement.

Re: Ross Lyon dummyspit collection wanted
here’s a couple of riddles you could try on NON Saints supporters....See if they guess right
Who is the luckiest ever coach to have walked into two ready made finals capable and finals experienced sides, choc full of talent...this bloke hasn’t won a flag and yet he’s still considered to be one of the best coaches going round in the last decade...especially by fans of his former club?
We all know the answer, but hey...try it out on your non-Saints friends as a sort of conversation starter during this period of isolation
Next riddle
Who is the luckiest coach who got payed their AFL wages for 2020? Not only is this bloke not doing anything like most other coaches and people within the AFL but he got 100% of his wages and this bloke got his money upfront for the whole year
He had his powerful mates in the media perpetuating the myth during his time at the Saints that he was unlucky when perhaps it’s the other way around. Sure ...he has worked hard and created opportunities in his career, but history will show we were unlucky...as a club to have landed Lyon
I mean seriously...instead of people seeing Lyon as unlucky...maybe we need to flip our perception and view his good fortune at landing the Saints job for what it was. He benefited from his association with us a lot more than the St Kilda Football club benefiting from employing him

How did Ross walk into the Saints role?
He did a 10 year apprenticeship as an assistant coach and was highly regarded as a premier assistant, he was so highly regarded it has been reported GT when coaching the saints tried to recruit Ross. Ross earned his senior role by serving a long term apprenticeship as a hard working assistant.
Ross was the offered a Grand Father deal at Freo on the basis of his performance as a senior coach at the Saints.
What you refer to as fortunate & lucky has been earned by hard work as an assistant and senior coach.
Whether Ross reached the heights he should have and has earned his reputation as a high level coach is definitely debatable, the ridiculous part of your post is suggesting he walked into roles and was lucky when in fact he did the hard yards and earned his roles.
Here is a replacement question: Who is the luckiest person to ever coach an AFL club?
I'll give you some clues-
- He had no AFL coaching apprenticeship as an assistant coach other than a couple of months under Stan who moved him on
- His only coaching experience had been at Warnambool & Old Xavs 10 years earlier
- Securing the role was based purely nepotism
- He was appointed interim coach then FT coach after a farce process
- His best mate was a drug addict who happened to be the club president
When you talk about luck in securing a FT coaching role compare these tw:
Ross - Serving 10 years as an assistant coach
GT: A couple of months as an assistant 6 years earlier and having his best mate as president of the club
Proudly assuming the title of forum Oracle and serving as the inaugural Saintsational ‘weak as piss brigade’ President.
