Household incomes need to be protected

Cash is king and that cash needs to still circulate as and where it can to retain some semblance of an economy

Liquidity

Support for good business encountering cash flow disruption so that they do not close

Protecting household income (including self funded retirees who are unknown to government because they have provided for their own retirement)

So far we have seen $750- to be paid to those on Social Security sometime in the future plus accelerated depreciation “so you can go out and buy a car”

We see Sandringham - and my favourite Company Qantas, with its record from the time retrenchment costs, write offs and the bringing forward of expenses left so much red ink that they have only now started to pay tax - and their CEO gets a lazy $23 Million a year

If Qantas fails, good riddance

Doesn’t help their employees tho, effectively sacked forthwith.

If the government provides support to Qantas, a tax manipulator, I will spew

But its employees require support along with every other person who has had their income impacted

In terms of media coverage, presenting that Australia lead the World, go to Aljazeera on line and benchmark Australian to other Nations

Been discussing the financial disaster looming with the guys at work.

I’m no economic expert but I’ve had some radical ideas that may help:

1. Lower the retirement age to 60. Ok, the pension bill would be bigger but it may create new jobs for younger people;

2. If people aged say, 50, lose their job, let them be able to access their super tax free so they can maybe pay their house off. They may then be short later in life but in the worst case scenario of all this, their future will be cactus anyway

Clearly you aren't grasping the situation playing out. If the world community fails to minimise the impact of the virus then sport and all other non essential life activities will slide completely of the radar in a very quick time frame. The AFL is as desperate as any other profit making business to salvage its self interest but it may be futile and only a distraction to much more important pursuits.

My point is this is incredibly short sighted sacking experienced staff.
Valuable staff are not a tap.
You can't expect to just re-employ them in a few months.

When things get back to normal we may find these valuable human resources are unavailable and their expertise lost.

On one side it provides a welcome distraction from otherwise very bleak circumstances - but T what ultimate cost to players and support staff?

On the other side it sends a wrong message, contrary to “social distancing” which is a consistent message being prompted to society

So is it undermining the seriousness by the game continuing as normal on the field

And what does shorter quarters achieve?

Only with the benefit of hindsight can an answer be given

In the meantime it is what it is

The attempts to control this virus needs to also include testing (where there are restrictions Australia wide -still on 20 March so 9 days after the WHO lifted its warning due to the “alarming” spread and the “alarming” lack of response (by governments), “alarming” being the description of the WHO in their press release

“alarming” is why we see the figures paraded before us as a Premiership Table

The most effective course of action is to practice social distancing AND (again from the WHO) to test, test, test (which we appear not promoting because of??) then track, track, track all the way back to source

That testing and tracking will see numbers increase - much to the glee of media looking for yet another negative headline to sell their irrelevant product - because it has to

Until everyone is identified and quarantined so there are no carriers

Then we get to the impact on our wider society
