The COVID-19 Elephant In The Room
How much money does the NRL and AFL risk losing from Betting sponsorship... and betting in general if season 2020 is called off?

Re: The COVID-19 Elephant In The Room
It's a terrific question but, I'm trying to look at it slightly differently. If there are no sports (pretty much anywhere in the world) for people to bet on - how much will the betting companies themselves lose?
My great hope is that they'll be fvcked so financially hard in their greedy tvrd tunnels that they'll all shrivel up and die.
Possibly not a popular position but they do so little good for society (and conversely, so much bad) that I care not a zack as to their outcomes.
Go you red, black & white warriors

Don't know about the ARL, and don't give a rat's anyway, but losses for the AFL are said to be around 400 million dollars, all up including betting and other sponsorship lucre.

Probably not but they will probably all have to take pay cuts for the game to survive

I have legit heard this exact same info from two different people. One supposedly has a relative who is an MP in Nsw parliament and another works high up in the department of education. Both said they have received correspondence from the federal government about this. However, im surprised nothing has been announced yet if this is a foregone conclusion.

When I told my workmates about it at smoko, one said it’s too sudden but another said it’s better to announce it suddenly as it gives people less time to panic

Emails were obviously fraudulent (many have been sent around), there won’t be a lockdown at least for now.

ScoMo’s talking today about further limiting public gatherings, so maybe that’s what they meant?
