Re: Max King and Round 1
Why would you think anything anyone writes on an internet footy forum would upset any member?
I find your personal references a bit odd to be honest, but I am not offended.
Thinking back the last forum member I read that got very upset was a person who went under the nic of Cairnsman who went nuts and wanted to punch somebodys head at a pub. I think he then had a couple of different nics as he/she faced bans. Their spiral was pretty comical actually
Now commenting personally does not deflect from the questions I have put forward SK.
If you don't think Max or Dougal Howard should be selected round 1, who do you think is more deserving of a spot? I have listed a few players above I consider on the fringe of selection, is there any in that list or a player I have missed that should be in front of Max & Dougie Howser.
In response to your questions:
1. Did not see Ratts interview.
2. Hard to see all on TV but max took a couple of good contested marks, I though his agility for a guy his size coming of a reco and ankle injury was brilliant and I think his height and speed will make some very good defenders nervous and very keen to keep him close and block his run.
His set shots have always been an issue from what I have seen.
In for round 1 no doubt and would retain his spot on that performance.
He adds a different dimension to Membrey and Ryder/Marshall forward and if he continues to compete hard in the air that Lonie, Butler, Gresham, Billings etc will get plenty of crumbs.

A simply delicious post, Joffa! (Edit - oops, I screwed the quote function up).

Which players are your example of a pack mark currently playing the game?

Re: Max King and Round 1
The context is significantly different. We were a basket case and Roo probably was the biggest stat gatherer that match. A coach got sacked after that game and Roo hardly came up in conversation. He was afforded development time with 44 other players for a few years after that.
We are expected to beat North and play finals.
If Maxy puts in a shocker and we lose to North it could be terrible for his confidence.

Jeremy McGovern, Josh Kennedy, Mason Cox, Joe Daniher, Tim Membrey, Tim Lynch off the top of my head.Secret Kiel wrote: ↑Tue 10 Mar 2020 4:59amWhich players are your example of a pack mark currently playing the game?

They have to debut at some stage and I hope we’re not timid about this. Now is as good a time as any and I suspect Ratts is not as risk averse as his predecessor.
I think King is ready to debut, but he shouldn’t and won’t be expected to star immediately and kick us a winning score.
Start him on the half forward line with Marshall or Membrey or Battle or Ryder deep.
He’ll be fine.

I reckon you need to put some meat on the bone with your definition of a pack mark because those names you've thrown up just add more ambiguity.BarryGrogan wrote: ↑Tue 10 Mar 2020 8:27amJeremy McGovern, Josh Kennedy, Mason Cox, Joe Daniher, Tim Membrey, Tim Lynch off the top of my head.Secret Kiel wrote: ↑Tue 10 Mar 2020 4:59amWhich players are your example of a pack mark currently playing the game?

Re: Max King and Round 1
In his first two years (28 games), Nick Riewoldt kicked 23 goals and 20 behinds.
Over the rest of his career (308 games), Nick kicked 695 goals and 435 behind for an accuracy of 62%.
Inaccuracy is normal for a key forward early in their career.

Re: Max King and Round 1
Riewoldt wasn't a key forward in his first two years, hence his goal kicking wasn't great.
Considering we had Gehrig and Loewe as the pillars, with Hamill as well, Riewoldt was a flanker.

Re: Max King and Round 1
That isn't quite true. Huge fan of roo like everyone on here but his kicking wasn't 60% as that seems too high. Did you factor in shots that missed completely or those that became passes

Re: Max King and Round 1
From our perspective, it seems we have to play him...no choice. Our investment needs to grow. Give him oxygen and sunlight ....play him.
But from North Melbourne's perspective, Max has a half life as long as the first quarter and will be forgotten at the close of play. I can't help thinking they would hope he gets picked as he presents a liability for St Kilda - the Saints HAVE to play him, it's their burden, their risk.
They will be sweating on Hill etc. and they might play their second Ruckman too, Tristan which might be interesting for our selectors.

Are you purposely being inflammatory?BarryGrogan wrote: ↑Mon 09 Mar 2020 3:09pm
If you interpreted 'cough it up' to mean 'directly turn it over', then I could see how you would disagree.
But if you interpret it as 'missing targets', and 'lacking precision when in possession' (which is how it was intended) then you'd be completely wrong to disagree with it.

You instead disagree with me. That's fine. Very different from ambiguity though.
I don't have access to the game, but would like to watch it again as I haven't seen the 2nd half. Although in reality, watching replays of praccy matches is generally for fans far more hardcore than me.

I watched a replay to try understand your comment about Long. barely hardcore but I have been a mad Saints fan for a very long time.
