And that is why the AFL would prefer finding someone willing to pay for the show to to come thier town. The Cairns and Gold Coast tourism economies are being smashed by CoronaVirus. It will be a ghost town in those cities this year. Not an international tourist to be spotted anywhere for a while. Enter subsidies to be paid by the local council and Queensland Government to stump up the appearance money.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Sun 01 Mar 2020 8:32pmsaintbrat wrote: ↑Sun 01 Mar 2020 8:25pmit's appears it's where the AFL can get the funds to compensate St Kilda for the $$$ budgeted for and now not coming in>>>saintsRrising wrote: ↑Sun 01 Mar 2020 11:44amThough it appears it is not where Port want to play, but where the AFL wants us to play. Hence Cairns as a possibility.
Without Chinese Money what Port wants is not really an issue as the money is effectively no longer being generated through them.
I think it is more that as the AFL is topping us up at present that they are not giving us the choice to play the game in Vic as they do not want to have to top us even more.
St Kilda vs Port-Confirmed as now Sun 7 June as Shanghai is cancelled

The cynic in me says no chance only becuase they won't be able to compete with the appearance money we will make for playing in Queensland.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Mon 02 Mar 2020 6:48pm Moorabbin still in the mix according to “Stevo” on channel 7.

But it is possible to build a few temporary grandstands that hold 20,000 people also at Moorabbin. Can be done.

Free tax payer money is what we need to help balance the books.
But yeah a game at Linton Street for points would be awesome.

Shangia officially cancelled now. But we have all known for ages that it would not be in Shanghai.
So the question remains St kIlda vs Port Adelaide, When and Where will it be played?

Marvel Stadium. Just a matter of which round, 11 or 12.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Tue 03 Mar 2020 12:38pm Shangia officially cancelled now. But we have all known for ages that it would not be in Shanghai.

If the game is kept within Round 11, it would be unclear when it would be played, with matches already scheduled for Saturday night and Sunday afternoon at Marvel. Thursday night is one possibility, as both teams play on the Saturday of the previous round, while Monday night is could work because both teams currently have a bye the next week.
In theory I am flying out on the Saturday and so if at Marvel I would personally hope for the Thursday and not the Sunday
Though Cairns is still a possibility if someone will stump up $700K or so!

FoxSports and the 7AFL app have reported that - and that an announcement on the date and venue (although it seems it's now going to be at Marvel) will be made later this week.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Tue 03 Mar 2020 1:03pmOfficially?saintsRrising wrote:Shangia officially cancelled now. It's just the usual way the AFL does things ... let it leak slowly to let the punters get used to it. That decision was made weeks ago.

If you want to wait for the AFL "official", official announcement that will probably be later in the week when they will also announce date, time and venue.
But both clubs have been told they are not going to China.

Telling statement from that article but.
'There have been three matches played at Jiangwan Stadium in Shanghai, all featuring and won by Port Adelaide. Gold Coast was paid to host and lose to the Power in 2017 and 2018, while St Kilda took over that role in 2019.'

Is that officially so, un-officially so or just in your opinion?
The AFL has literally refused to officially comment on it. Tony74's opinion on this unkown.

The Herald Sun can reveal that both St Kilda and Port Adelaide — who were set to face off at Jiangwan Stadium in Round 11 on May 31 — have had their bye moved with the match to now be played on Sunday June 7.
It is understood that it will be a night match, with a public holiday for Queen’s Birthday in both Victoria and South Australia the following day.

Just glad we aren't playing in China for two reasons
1) The obvious health risks due to their filthy habits and slack health regulations.
2) Simply playing games there gives some credence and legitimacy to the policies pursued by the Chinese government.
In fact China is a totalitarian dictatorship with severely repressive internal policies and an aggressive external agenda to politically and economically dominate.
We should have nothing to do with them much less accepting their dirty tainted money.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

We all know how well Anzac Eve has worked for the Dees and Tigers.
Unfortunately we aren’t playing a Melbourne based team. In any case, a bumper crowd of 25,000 would be possible (let’s hope!)

Pretty much spot on though wasn't I. If it's off in China has to be played at our home ground not a ground with no advantage to us.
