10 biggest scandals of the decade

Post: # 1835323Post saynta »

From herald sun.com.au

7. ROSS LYON’S FREO SWITCH

Four days after St Kilda’s 2011 season ended, its coach Ross Lyon had gone AWOL.

For a whole day, repeated calls by club officials went unanswered.

The Saints were drafting a press release to announce he’d signed a new four-year deal and were baffled by his absence.

They had no idea that 10 days earlier, Lyon had been cold-called by Fremantle chief executive Steve Rosich.

Rosich got straight to business and asked whether Lyon had any interest in moving to Perth to coach the Dockers.

The Saints thought Lyon was close to re-signing, but instead he inked a secret four-year deal with Fremantle worth $3.2 million.

The casualty was Mark Harvey, who had a year to run on his Fremantle coaching contract.

Like the Saints, he never saw it coming.'

Hate the prick. Never forget. Never forgive.

And it didn’t do Freo any good as they finished up sacking him.

Ross Lyon gave me one of my best moments watching footy.

The final siren when Freo lost the granny. Pure joy! So glad I got to see it live.

Wonder if he’ll get back into the AFL?

I’d have to imagine that he would.

Am not an RL fan and was critical of his decision making from the 09 GF onwards as I’m sure you may remember Pav... but regardless of what ppl personally think, one can’t argue that he/his team marketed him very well.

A huge segment of the AFL fan base believe that he worked miracles at both St.Kilda and Freo... turned them around from nothing (despite both lists having played in finals a year or two before he came onboard... and prelims within 2 at that.

But that’s the image... super coach, unbelievable W/L ratio.

I say fancy winning more games than you lose with a team that had seasoned versions of Riewoldt, Hayes, Dal, Monty, Goddard, Fisher, Milne, Kosi, Ball and Hudghton to name a few.
Freo in their GF year had some pretty elite talent too

Reckon I could have coached that team into finals. Other ppl see miracle work.
Regardless... on 2 occasions he’s failed to keep developing the list he inherited and he has yet to show that can adapt his approach.

I have no doubt that a club looking to take that next step will tap RL on the shoulders being sucked into the mythos. Like Freo they’ll be foolish to do it

No 1 is a no brainer.
But what were scandals 2-6 and 8-10?
