Age guide to this years draft.
From the age.com.au
ST KILDA
PICKS: 51, 76, 82
KEY DEFENDERS: Josh Battle, Dougal Howard, Jake Carlisle, Nathan Brown, Logan Austin, Oscar Clavarino, Darragh Joyce, Jonathon Marsh
SMALL/MEDIUM DEFENDERS: Jarryn Geary, Shane Savage, Dylan Roberton, Callum Wilkie, Nick Coffield, Jimmy Webster, Ben Paton, Daniel McKenzie
MIDFIELDERS: Brad Hill, Jack Billings, Dan Hannebery, Sebastian Ross, Zak Jones, Hunter Clark, Luke Dunstan, Jack Steele, Jack Bytel, Ed Phillips, Nick Hind, Doulton Langlands
KEY FORWARDS: Max King, Tim Membrey
SMALL/MEDIUM FORWARDS: Jade Gresham, Jack Sinclair, Dan Butler, Jack Lonie, Ben Long, Dean Kent, Matt Parker, Jack Mayo
RUCKS: Rowan Marshall, Paddy Ryder, Ryan Abbott, Sam Alabakis
The raw Bigoa Nyuon is available to St Kilda as a Next Generation Academy player, which is a good start for the Saints as they need a few free hits after such an active time gathering players during the trade period. Last year’s No.4 pick Max King is another recruit too in practice, given injuries have delayed his much-anticipated debut, and they added Ryan Abbott from Geelong to give their ruck stocks depth as a delisted free agent. With their first pick at 57 it’s mere speculation as to who is available but they might take some risks on players with real upside. Blake Kuipers would be an interesting choice as the former volleyballer is an untapped athletic talent who could be worth a punt, while another Vic Country speculation pick could be the shy speedster from the Bendigo Pioneers, Brady Rowles, who has real pace. They could add another Butler to the list too if they opted for local lad Louis Butler who is around that range. He underwent a further medical check early in the month along with a dozen other draft picks but he knows how to win the ball and fits their mould of rebounding defenders.
Ryan Abbott will add depth to St Kilda's roster.

Re: Age guide to this years draft.
How many other clubs had only two "Key Forwards" on their list?
How many only had one who had ever played seniors?
I'm feeling a little fragile here.

Re: Age guide to this years draft.
I suspect with the retention of Nathan Brown and the addition of Dougal Howard that Josh Battle will play in the position we recruited him for and go back to add another target option in the forward line.

Three: Blues, Dees and Roos. Blues may only have one now that Curnow has busted his patella.
None have Eight Key Defenders.

Battle, Marshall and Ryder can all play big forward.
Membrey is arguably a medium forward, but I guess only putting King would have looked weird.

I understand that we traded pick 76 to the Swans. So how did we get it back?
Unless I missed a trade our last two trades were:
Dan Butler to St Kilda
TRADE
October 16, 2019
St Kilda receives Dan Butler FROM: RICHMOND
Richmond receives a third-round pick (currently No.56) FROM: ST KILDA
Zak Jones to St Kilda
TRADE
October 16, 2019
St Kilda receives Zak Jones, a third-round pick (currently No.56) and a future fourth-round selection FROM: SYDNEY SWANS
Sydney receives a second-round pick (currently No.32), a fourth-round pick (currently No.76) and a future third-round selection (tied to Fremantle) FROM: ST KILDA

Re: Age guide to this years draft.
Ok...it looks like the AFL has today adjusted the draft order. Removed picks that clubs will not use and some previous years points adjustments.
So 76 has moved to 71.
71. Sydney (received from St Kilda as part of Zak Jones trade; originally received from Greater Western Sydney in 2018)
And our pick that was 82 is now 76, and pick 100 is now 82.

Right..weird seeing Matt Parker, at 190cm a small/medium forward and Members at 188cm as key, but Tim is a great leap.
Wouldn't it be a treat to see Carlisle just control his own forward patch for a quarter.

Re: Age guide to this years draft.
Clubs have to activate their draft picks by creating vacancy on their list.
No vacancy, no pick.
It just sheer coincidence that pick 82 moves in to 76 and then pick 100 moves into 82.
What I don't understand is how the addition of Abbott has not eliminated pick former pick 100.
Was the club allowed to place him on the list as a rookie B and so not lose a vacancy on the main list ?

Re: Age guide to this years draft.
The club presently shows 32 names on the senior list having finally deleted the dearly departed.
Those 32 include the upgrade of Darragh Joyce.
It may take years for the five player traded into the club during trade period to be added, but that makes 37.
If Abbott goes onto the senior list that makes 38 leaving only 2 picks in the main draft and 1 pick in the rookie draft.
The only scenario I can see that we still have three main draft picks is if Abbott is not added to the senior list.

Re: Age guide to this years draft.
Looking through the list of draft nominees I see that here are a few babies among the parents.
How babyish is it to give your child a surname like
Andrews-Coriglian
Kropinyeri-Pickett
Dick-O'Flaherty
Viojo-Rainbow
Edwards-Baldwin
Glass-McCasker
Mullenger-McHugh
O'Loughlin-Johncock
Juffs-King
Ferguson-Reynolds
Honorable mentions to
Baddeley-Kelly
Craig-Peters
Deane-Johns
Jones-Egan
Minton-Connell
Parker-Boers
Baby parents who insist that their new born must carry each parents name with a hyphen for the rest of their lives.
GROW UP.
One thing for sure, hyphens do not come from a good families.

O'Loughlin-Johncock. O'c**k
Baddeley-Kelly. Belly
Minton-Connell. Con the Minter

Why did they get married in the first place.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Tue 26 Nov 2019 9:54am Why can't they do whatJapanese do with borrowed coomon nouns just combine the names?

Then maybe they didn't.
No respect for each other, both insistent that their name be included in the child's surname.
It is rather simple just include one surname as the middle name.
Oh but no, I want my child to have my mother's name as a middle name, well then my mother's should be included as a middle name too.
Now got a list of 5 names like a Royal.
Happened to one unfortunate girl.
Even before she was married she was insistent she would take her husband's surname just to be rid of the hyphen name.

I agree. What is it with women thinking their identities matter? Thank goodness my mother didn't have that stupid idea. I would have hated to have to go through life with people thinking both my parents were equally important.

If we are keep within the rules of not having more than 40 players on the senior list AND making 3 selections at the national draft, then one of the selections at the draft must be for the promotion of Darragh Joyce if my numbers are correct.

Cut the nonsense. What Ace is saying is make things simple.
After my Mum & Dad split up, my Mum didn’t go back to her maiden name ever. Keep it simple stupid.

Trouble with these boards is it's too easy to get carried away and start overstating your position. My only point really was objecting to the idea that wanting to preserve your family name was babyish. Most men never confront the problem - I think the ones that do deserve a bit more respect. Kids can always change their names down the track - nobody has to wait till they're married (or divorced) for that.

Every child knows their Mother's maiden name. And every child knows the contribution of their mother in their lives.
When the mother choose to add their name to their child's name it was for their own benefit. It was not to enrich the life of their child. The poor kid must now spend the rest of their lives with an increasing likelihood of being badly computed or encountering naming-confusion.
Nothing better than a good Dad Joke.

Re: Age guide to this years draft.
As I said, minn, you can always change your name or use whichever name you prefer when you're an adult. Surely you can see that our custom - which obliterates the female line is inequitable. If you have ever tried to trace anyone's ancestry you'll know that the male line is easy to follow but good luck finding the mother of the mother.
My own preference is for girls to take their mother's name and boys their father's. As I said, I'm not necessarily advocating for hyphenated names, just objecting to the idea that they're childish.
Should just add - you can hyphenate your names when you marry and then give your child whatever surame you like - I'm not sure if you mistakenly think a child has to be given one of their parent's names on the birth certificate - saddling a child with their father's name is just a convention.

Carlile's best position is as a key defender across half-back. This is where he is best suited for the team as his greatest strength is his intercept marking.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Tue 26 Nov 2019 1:10amRight..weird seeing Matt Parker, at 190cm a small/medium forward and Members at 188cm as key, but Tim is a great leap.

IMO he is not a great forward. It's a difficult position to play and it just doesn't suit him. From reports, he also doesn't like it.

Re: Age guide to this years draft.
I just have to ask, from afar, seeing only a handful of games....
1) reads the play well...positioning natural
2) great physicality
3) marking
4) kicking
Speaking from my unique experience at the U15 "C" team at high school, what rules him out in your opinion, other than the oft stated claim he hated playing up forward. I remember Essendon had a little conundrum about it too.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!
