How the hell did we ever let Val Perovic go?

Yes, I remember.
Carlton swooped and the rest is history. He was such a good player. Great contested pack mark and most of his booming kicks set up forward attacks.

Re: A classic from 40 years ago
If I remember correctly, Keith Greig ran riot after half time. The good news in that loss was that we were ultra competitive against the previous year's Premiers. We went on to beat Geelong, Melbourne, and Essendon after this game - and then the catch cry of Animals by the Essendon Maggot of a president (Colin Stubbs???), and we went in to free fall for six weeks. That side on an even playing field could have won the Premiership.

Not forgetting Russell Greene. We should never have let him go either.

Agree.
From reports, club had to let him go as it had a major cash flow problem.

100 grand transfer fee for Perovic 40 years ago was a fortune for our near-insolvent club.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
