Angus Schumacher
Anyone know anything about Angus Schumacher?
Apparently he is training with us this summer hoping to be drafted/picked up somehow.
He is an ex-Carlton player, that’s all I know about him. Never heard of him prior.

“ Meanwhile, ex-Blue Angus Schumacher is training with St Kilda and former Power forward Aidyn Johnson is one of five players joining in at Sydney in the hope of an AFL lifeline.”

Rebounding defender who spent his first season developing in the VFL. Despite missing two games with a groin injury, he displayed great composure with ball in hand and showed enormous improvement as the year progressed, being named as an emergency for round 22 against the Western Bulldogs. The lifelong Carlton supporter, who played alongside teammates Paddy Dow and Lochie O’Brien at the Bendigo Pioneers in the TAC Cup in 2017, is an excellent kick, athletic and has plenty of speed.
Draft history: 2017 NAB AFL Draft (Carlton) No.70 overall.

Re: Angus Schumacher
Angus Schumacher
Career : 2018 -
Debut and Only Game: Round 20, 2019 v West Coast Eagles, aged 20 years 141 days.
Carlton Player No. 1,209
Games : 1
Goals : 0
Guernsey : 19
Height : 190 cm (6 ft. 2 in.)
Weight : 79 kg (12 stone, 4 lbs.)
DOB: 16 March, 1999.
Carlton selected boyhood Bluebagger Angus Schumacher with pick 70 in the 2017 NAB AFL National Draft. With one of the longest and penetrating kicks in this year’s draft, there’s no wonder the rangy left-footer was the top rebounder in the TAC Cup – averaging nearly four per game. Showcasing his elite kick at the AFL Draft Combine in October, the young Bendigo Pioneer was one of only four players to achieve a perfect score in the goalkicking test. The young defender also knows how to lay a strong tackle and apply relentless pressure to his opponent, while his quick hands, coupled with his ability to make good decisions, makes him a dangerous prospect. Carlton’s GM of List Management and Strategy Stephen Silvagni said he was impressed with Schumacher’s ability to find time and space with the ball. “Angus is one of those players who always seems to have time with the ball,” Silvagni said. “He’s a great size and has all the attributes you want in a modern footballer.”
Interestingly Schumacher was the third Bendigo Pioneer taken by Carlton in the 2017 National Draft, maybe this is an omen going back to the Blues halcyon days when the Bendigo zone was a recruiting gold mine!
Schumacher spent all of 2018 at the Northern Blues, gradually moving up the field from a defensive role. Despite some murmurs of imminent selection and a long list of defensive injuries, selection did not follow for the Blues. However he was of course retained and then turned up to the 2019 pre-season in fantastic shape - a debut beckons!
After numerous games being named as an emergency, Angus Schumacher would finally crack it for a senior game during the 2019 season when the Blues took on the reigning premiers West Coast Eagles in Round 20 at Marvel Stadium. Sadly for Schumacher who showed some promise on debut would not manage another games for the Blues, he was delisted at the end of the 2019 season.
Schumacher was recruited from Stathfieldsaye via the Bendigo Pioneers.

It's a no from me. We need to urgently stockpile midfielders, other than our other weakness which is tall forwards, we desperately need more depth in the midfield stocks.

Re: Angus Schumacher
Its a hard one. Sounds ok but if not suitable for Carlton, we're prob. in a similar position to them.
Late pick/rookie.
Hard to get decent midfielder with late picks.
Excellent kick.....direction we are looking to bolster?

Michael was and he isn't much use now.
Skied between two pistes, through a rock garden covered by fresh powder
First rock tripped him up, banged his head on a second rock.
Your hands are useless if they plunge into powder between the rocks.
Just because the powder has been smoothed by the wind does not mean it is safe underneath.
Know your mountain.
Schumacher should have known the Meribel slopes of Saulire better than to make that mistake.
He had skied there enough times.

No they are in a better position to us.
They have a better list but were held back by an incompetent coach.
We will struggle to match them if Teague is any use.

190 cm = 6ft. 2.8 in. to be exact. So basically 6.3 not 6.2.saintly wrote: ↑Tue 12 Nov 2019 9:26pm Angus Schumacher

Re: Angus Schumacher
If St KIlda are looking at him then I expect they may see something in him that others have not.
The lad is only 20 so it may well be that he is taking time to adjust to senior footy as he obviously showed reasonable potential as a junior. At 190 cm he is easily able to play midfield, should he develop the skills needed for such a role.
At worst, he could well be a replacement for Jarryn Geary who could possibly retire at the end of 2020.
At zero cost I'm prepared to back the club if they sign him up!

Well things turned out well with the investment in Brandon White so I can see why we'd be keen to find another just like him.
