Surely we had a committed from Sydney and Richmond for Jones and Butler before trading Bruce for those picks

Well Bruce was pretty much what I expected and Keath was always going to cost less trade wise than Bruce.

Yeah, I reckon the trade team deserve to celebrate with a good pissup tonight.

Bulldogs just about won the trade period IMO.
Gave not much for 2 really good players. Held on to this years 1sr rounder.

Be interesting to see who we play on Brucey.
Carlisle can't keep up with him, maybe Battle?
Howard to Naughton
Wilkie/ Carlisle to Shache

Re: TRADED: Bruce for 32 and 51
Dogs did well here.
They KNEW Keith hated crows and wouldnt go back and Crows knew this.
and Bruce they knew we dont need or want a forward on the books now mccartin is having a go aling with king/ryder/marshal/battle/membrey.
So they had us and crows by the balls BUT at the sane time these two could equal a flag. kudos to fellow minnow they held strong

Re: TRADED: Bruce for 32 and 51
s*** trade. Really pathetic. Bruce for Jones and Butler. A key forward who is one of the best pressure players and marks in the AFL for a couple of back up flankers who both played a fair portion of the season at reserve level .
I will be reminding the club how poor the deal was when the Doggies beat us by two or three goals in the future with Bruce kicking bagfulls while Butler and possibly Jones are kicking up the dew at Sandringham.

Re: Bruce for 32 and 51
I worry a little about that also plus the fact that right now this list doesn’t have elite talent on it (Hill probably closest now to it). We probably need 2-3 elite guns to be honest.....think Hayes, Goddard, Dal Santo, Montagna etc....or a Bont or Cripps...evertonfc wrote: ↑Wed 16 Oct 2019 6:16pmBut we won't get anything from this draft and very little from the next; have to factor that in.
Also have to factor in that we picked up just two kids last year (King and Bytel).
After going all-in on youth, we have abandoned that policy, and gone all-in on short-term.
Our timelines for success has been rapidly brought forward - the club must believe it can win a premiership before Brad Hill turns 30.
It's an extraordinary gamble. But hey, if it pays off, power to them.
That aside, I think we’ve turned a corner.
We now have landed players who wanted to come to us......Hill and Dougal look very good
We’ll get 6 years from Hill, Jones is 24 (Acres age), Dougal 23; Butler 23 etc
Ryder won’t see our next flag but he’s short term necessary
I think we’ve re balanced the list, become something of a destination club AND if we can show something on field......we just might become that elite player destination club...
Only worry.....hearing Lethlean say on radio our cap is becoming quite tight......that worried me.....but I guess it’s manageable if we need to make further room for a true gun....
I read Acres was se to be on $500k next year.....amazing for a “potential” player not a star....but with the cap the money has to be spent so we have little choice.....least we’ve cleared some space with him, Bruce and Stevens so hopefully re balancing that money to a Hill etc who is a gun and who we get 5-6 good years out of makes sense...
List wise we still have work to do.
Newnes.....no one wanted (except Richo) Dmac......couldn’t be given away and if you look at Hawks delisting meatball recently you can see we’ve had a period of carrying players to long who are just not going to make it.....
Hard to trade when you don’t have much to offer.....think we did ok .

That is just fabricated BS about Zac Jones.saynta wrote: ↑Thu 17 Oct 2019 10:38am s*** trade. Really pathetic. Bruce for Jones and Butler. Played 17 games in the firsts and 0 in the NEAFL.
Missed the last two games with a hammy and a block of 3 mid season also with injury.
Jones was a walk up start in the best 18 at Swans for the last 3 years.
I’m not saying it was a great trade or I wanted Bruce to go in favor of these two, just don’t agree with making up BS about Jones to support your argument.
Jones is no perennial fringe player like Kent or gun past his best like Hannebery or Ryder, he is a solid B grade AFL player currently in his prime.

Re: TRADED: Bruce for 32 and 51
Saints weren’t prepared or couldn’t match Shitscray’s offer which apparently was too good to refuse. Bruce is probably collateral damage stemming from Hannebery deal. A further reason to be pissed off about that deal. Just when he might be getting his body right he then goes and does something stupid and injures himself.
I would have much preferred to keep Bruce but if it’s Jones and Butler for Bruce then it might not be too bad. Remember they’re now planning to use Marshall in the forward line for around 70-80% of the game is my best guess. Marshall is a huge unit who has a few tricks and he can run so he’ll probably attract the best backman which will free up King and Membrey a bit. If he replicates what he did in the ruck this year as a forward and becomes the player we think he can be, we’ll quickly forget about Bruce.

Re: TRADED: Bruce for 32 and 51
Does no one else find it funny (Luke Ball type stench) that the Dogs came to Bruce mid season (or his management went to them)? This coincided with possibly his best game, the North game in Hobart, & a rich vein of form to the end of the year. I'm really not sure the Club is to blame here, I suspect Bruce or his management as being duplicitous.
He's done, he's gone...I've far more interest and investment in Jones, Hill, Ryder, Howard and Butler - they all want to be at St Kilda (when the Saints go marching in).

When people say “mid season”, it could be referring to the middle part (roughly round 11), the mid section (rounds 8-16), or just plain during the season (any possible round of the year).
It is just pure speculation on when it happened, but to attribute that to a run of form, is just ludicrous.
