We are biting off more than we can chew
All clubs know that in order for us to do what we want this trade period, we must pay overs for some and sell for unders.
Geelong will get Steven for 56 as they know they have no reason to give us a higher pick. Like Cripps to the Eagles. There’s not much we can do to push them.
Hill will cost us big time because he is under contract.
Possible 12 and 18. Plus.
Bruce - Dogs sitting firm knowing that we need that pick to move anyone else to us. We’ll fold.
jones - waiting for the Bruce pick.
Butler - for the Steven pick.
Howard? - unless Port want one of our players - I can’t see it happening. Next years first round? What about King?
We’ve been too overzealous.
So I can see us losing Bruce and Steven for picks in the 30s and 50s. We’ll get hill for a lot. Butler the only easy one. We may not get Ryder as we have nothing to trade.
Then we have virtually no draft picks in this draft.
If we don’t pull off some of the above, this could be disastrous. We’ve been playing with an open hand.

Re: We are biting off more than we can chew
It's bollocks because we're not trading in a vacuum; other clubs are relying on our trades to go through as well so they can get their trades done. Sure, there will be a few bloodied noses and a few bruised egos along the way but the whole system is based on mutual trust and cooperation that clubs will try and get the players to where they want to go. Trade week would be unworkable if this was not the case.avid wrote: ↑Mon 14 Oct 2019 12:29amGlad to know this is Bollocks.True Believer wrote: ↑Sun 13 Oct 2019 11:47pmBollocks............Cordz2 wrote: ↑Sun 13 Oct 2019 11:15pm All clubs know that in order for us to do what we want this trade period, we must pay overs for some and sell for unders.

Re: We are biting off more than we can chew
If Ben King has signed with GC, maybe we give Freo pick 12 and next years first rounder for Hill and this years pick 22..
18 for Howard and Ryder
32 for Jones
Late pick for Butler
No deal on Steven
Take pick 22 to the draft.

Re: We are biting off more than we can chew
Howard should fairly straight forward pick 18 and ask for Ryyder as well. Port would likely do it.
Jones next years 2nd round pick. The swans need points for acadamy players next year.
Butler, the Tigers will take prett6 much anything to get it done.
Hill is the one that could be tricky but we should be ready to walk away. Start talking to Collingwood about Phillips as they are under a salary cap crush. Put the onus back on the purple munchkin to either be reasonable or convince Hill to stay.
As for Bruce we don't to get rid of him so if the Dogs want him they have to make us happy, particularly now that the story going round is that Ben King has signed an extension with the Gold Coast.
Then do whatever for Steven.

Bruce is gone. Who else is going to offer him a 4 year deal. The only bit left to haggle over is the pick. Bruce knows he is filler until the club can get Ben King into the joint and he won't be able to secure a 3 or 4 year offer next year. He's gone.

Yep. Same principle with Hill. Once a player declares his intention, that's it; there's no going back. Clubs are now just haggling about the price.Secret Kiel wrote: ↑Mon 14 Oct 2019 8:43am Bruce is gone. Who else is going to offer him a 4 year deal. The only bit left to haggle over is the pick. Re: We are biting off more than we can chew
The following is from the SEN website:
Matthew Lloyd has proposed a hypothetical trade, which allows Alex Keath, Josh Bruce and Zak Jones to get to their respective homes of choice.
Keath and Bruce wish to get to the Western Bulldogs, while Jones wants to be a Saint.
Lloyd believes this all starts with the Bulldogs and their unwillingness to part with pick 13.
“It all starts with the Western Bulldogs parting with pick 13 which they don’t want to, but have to,” he told Telstra AFL Trade Radio.
“The Dogs give pick 13, pick 32 and pick 51 all to the Adelaide Crows.
“In return, the Crows give to the Bulldogs pick 23, pick 28 and Alex Keath.
“That works out to Keath being worth pick 34 with that transaction, which is fair.
“That 28 that the Dogs got back goes to St Kilda for Josh Bruce.
“Then the (Saints), that 28 that they got for Bruce, that goes to Sydney for Zak Jones.
“It is (the Bulldogs’) only way of getting Keath and Bruce through the door, parting with pick 13.
“They’ll stick have pick 23 from the Crows.”

Well to answer your questions.
King is not available for 3 years now. The good news is that we now have all of our 2020 picks to trade if we need to. So after this mornings news we are better position. King also was never going to be a trade for us anyway in this trade period..
Butler will not require pick 56. Tigers will want to delist him, but are willing to trade him to as us a favour to him and to foster goodwill with all their players. Will be traded for whatever our last "free" pick is. ie 80+
Ryder will also only require a late pick, but will probably be bundled with Howard.
Hill will join us for the equivalent of the deal they knocked back.
Howard will be more problematic. It will really depend in large part if Howard is truly disgruntled or not. Clubs tend to let disgruntled players go.
Jones. Saints and Swan will have a pick value in mind and Swans will be open to options, So yes are waiting for the Saints to have the right pick or picks.
Dogs yes know that we want the deal now, and so are stalling to maximise value. Though Dogs also want Keath and so cannot hold off for ever as may also then miss their two key targets. Dogs are possible flag contenders in 2020 and so will want Bruce and Keath locked in.
Cats are being arrogant as have probably decided that they will offer gross unders and as the pick will not affect their deals and as they have many picks now after the Kelly deal, that they can just sit back until the last 30 minutes. So with the Steven deal we will possibly just have to ignore it in terms of getting any deals done.

Howard? - unless Port want one of our players - I can’t see it happening. Next years first round? What about King? - Likely to be 18 for Howard and Ryder at this stage
We may not get Ryder as we have nothing to trade. - The irony of this is that for a packet of Twisties Port would probably drive him over to RSEA park because they want him off their list!!

Dogs are possible flag contenders in 2020 and so will want Bruce and Hill locked in.

Re: We are biting off more than we can chew
That's what I don't get, we get screwed in one deal because he wants to leave despite being under contract
And then we get screwed in anther deal because he's under contract despite he wants to leave
Doesn't that contradicted its self or is it mandatory we get screwed?
