Ben King
Rumour floating around that Ben King will sign a two year extension tomorrow.
Blown up on the GC big footy site, they seem confident it is a good source.....anyone know this to be untrue...?

Re: Ben King
First steps maybe if proven correct but, given the speculation on his future including the comments of St Kilda FC, you would expect that they would be looking to secure King to a long term Contract
To digress, James Aish, who is the subject of reports attributed to Collingwood, played in a SANFL Premiership side with James Gallagher
Aish was 16 years of age and Gallagher was coaxed out of retirement mid season, which was his final playing season
Both surnames are icon names at that Club and over generations
For what it is worth

Re: Ben King
If Ben signs for only two that’s a good sign that he doesn’t see a long term future at suns. Two years means he is the same position this time next year than he is now. If anything it will finally get the GC CEO to stop hassling him every minute of the day, not to mention holding him hostage at his house....if he signed for four I’d be flat...

Tomorrow the Suns will announce Ben King has extended his contract by 2 years, suck that Melbourne media. Also, most likely to be followed by Jack Lukosius because they had a pact where if one signs, the other will too. Let’s go boyyyyys

Re: Ben King
Apparently has since deleted it from reddit. Not sure if this means it isn’t true or he has had a slap for announcing what he shouldn’t have.

Supposedly the source is meant to be Tony Cochranes (Chaiman of GC) stepson.
So it could be as you say, or it could be he misinterpreted something he was told.
Well I guess we find out tomorrow.

Re: Ben King
Interesting.
Can still be traded in contract.
Wondering from a management perspective, is it in King’s interest to sign up (even if unsure of wanting a trade) for the short term while the money is there and worry about trades when they occur?
Any insight into what a player manager would advise?

Re: Ben King
No insight but you would think that it depends on the contract and as you have implied, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.Spinner wrote: ↑Mon 14 Oct 2019 12:42am Interesting.

Ben might be perfectly happy at the GC and is probably forging strong friendships there. No one really knows.

Re: Ben King
Why wouldn’t he sign?!
They have a bunch of top ten draft picks under 22 who will come good, and when they do, it’ll be in a hurry!

Re: Ben King
Who cares if he signs a contract. They're not worth the paper they're signed on. If it wad a bit 5 year deal it maybe different but 2 years? This just takes the media pressure off the kid for next year. Nothing stoping him saying he wants out next year still. Just won't have the media hounding him all year.

Re: Ben King
From a fan's perspective, I don't think it's a big deal.
Players are employees like you and me; they need job security and it's cheap insurance.
Lyon’s reaction is a bit over the top and disingenuous. Reading from AFL talking points it seems to me.

Not good news. We should keep Bruce unless we receive a great deal from the Dogs.

Re: Ben King
We can't keep Bruce unless we are prepared to match the Bulldogs offer, which it doesn't appear we're likely to do, hence he’s gone and there's nothing that can be done about it as that's just they way it is.

Bruce is contracted and he stays if the trade doesn't suit us.

Re: Ben King
Gold Coast should now offer #1 & #20 to the Saints for Max.
#2 & #15 to Adelaide for 2 X Crouch brothers.
Yep its way overs for King & the Crouches but it will be a massive retention insurance policy for retaining the Kings, Crouches and the 2 SA boys taken in the draft last year.
Matt & Brad Crouch, Max & Ben King, Rankine, Lukosious, Bowes, Wright, Weller, Bowes, Fiorini is a core group in the right age bracket that matches most teams for talent and upside.

That's what Lethlean implied on the first day of trade week but I think it's just called posturing.longtimesaint wrote: ↑Mon 14 Oct 2019 9:35amBruce is contracted and he stays if the trade doesn't suit us.
BTW: Do you think it's reasonable for us to ask Hill to break his contract with the Dockers if we’re not prepared to let Bruce do the same?

Rubbish. Bruce is under contract. We don't have to match a damn thing until his contract expires.
