Looking Forward to 2020
I realise there is a lot of water to go under the bridge before next season. What's the team you'd like them to name R1 2020. Below is mine.
FB Paton, Battle, Coffield

HF, Membery, M.King, Hind
FF Gresham, B.King, Lonie
RU: Marshall, Clark, Hannebery
INT: Bytel, Hannebery, Ross, Marsh
Emg: Ryder, Dunstan, Langlands, Parker
Pick 5 (And steak knives if needed) for B.King
Bruce to Bulldogs for pick 12, ontraded to Freo for Hill

If we're looking at the lineup for Round 1 it is doubtful that either Roberton, Austin or Bytel will get the nod.To the top wrote: ↑Sun 29 Sep 2019 4:02pm At this juncture, with Steven not reported as having requested a trade and leaving McCartin out pending further information on his progress:-

I would expect Roberton to resume in the reserves for a number of games to ensure that he has fully rehabilitated from his heart issues - the risk in the physical pressures of the seniors is far too great. Austin likewise would need to prove his recovery from a number of serious injuries that precluded him from playing in the firsts in 2019, and Jack Bytel likewise has to establish his credentials for senior selection by playing for the Dragons.
My current team, based on expected trades so far:
B: Savage, Brown, Paton
HB: Coffield, Carlisle, Wilkie
C: Hill, Ross, Billings
HF: Membrey, Marshall, Long
F: Gresham, King, Hind
R: Ryder, Steele, Dunstan
Int: Clark, Hannebery, Battle, Jones
Emerg: Lonie, Webster, Parker
The other player that could come into calculations is Charlie Constable who I hope will come to St Kilda as part of the deal to trade Jack Steven to Geelong. If that comes off then I would consider sending Blake Acres to Freo as part of the trade for Bradley Hill.
In scrutinising the St Kilda player list for this exercise it struck me that IMHO there are very few if any other players that would seriously challenge for "Best 25" - Sinclair is probably unlucky as he can play, and White, Phillips, McKenzie, Kent are borderline, but in essence the Saints talent pool is quite shallow.

When one door closes and another door opens, you are probably in prison..
Sometimes, someone unexpected comes into your life out of nowhere, makes your heart race, and changes you forever. We call those people cops.
My luck is like a bald guy who just won a comb.

Interesting that our captain is not listed in any of these teams
Round one, based on what we know so far?
Roberton Brown Webster
Paton Carlisle Wilkie
Hill Hannebery Clark
Billings Battle Hind
Membrey King Lonie
R: Marshall Steele Ross
Inter: Savage Ryder Coffield Gresham
Emerg: Sinclair Acres Dunstan

Re: Looking Forward to 2020
These players would have had a full pre season preparation including intra Club and pre season competition games - so given that preparation why hold them back?
I do agree that once you go past the 22 I have named the pickings are very, very thin on disclosed performances (including those named by others in their submissions hence I have not included them in my 22)
So we need an exceptional run with injuries - unlike what we endured this year

Re: Looking Forward to 2020
By way of explanation of process, my assessment was that we lost to Carlton because their tall forwards got off the leash as dominating targets with Brown exposed for mobility
So, to me, his papers are marked and we move on - to improve
ditto Savage who played very well against Fremantle (or more correctly, Sandilands and Fyffe with some help from Hill) but went back to what we saw the next week
We have to move on from these players to improve to competitor status resulting in (firstly) playing September football then deep into September
We saw the benchmark yesterday - the benchmark absolutely dominating the ruck contests leaving the oppositions mids irreverent and is escalated from there to dominating field position
Field position delivers results and that was the take from yesterday

Re: Looking Forward to 2020
I thought we paid Hannebery enough this year, so he should play 2 positions next year. But really since Steven has not asked for a trade yet he'd be an automatic in comsidering he arguably our best player when fit.To the top wrote: ↑Sun 29 Sep 2019 4:02pm At this juncture, with Steven not reported as having requested a trade and leaving McCartin out pending further information on his progress:-

Geary not in our best 22 says it all really.cwrcyn wrote: ↑Sun 29 Sep 2019 6:43pm Interesting that our captain is not listed in any of these teams

Roberton and King might take some more time in the reserves before they play AFL plus Brown is yet to re-sign.
Also people were not happy with trading Dmac yet he isn't in a lot of top 22's
Most important thing is change is a coming so we wont die wondering

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?
