New Sandringham Coach

Post: # 1824405Post 66Iwasthere »

Has anybody heard any more about the report that Ben McGlynn is taking over as Sandy coach next year whilst Hamill is taking on a bigger role at Moorabbin?

Anyone would be better than Hamill. He's a good assistant but hopeless in the main job!

The mystery continues as to why White wasn’t given a go this year. I see he shared the B&F with Seccull. The coaches obviously liked his body of work for the year

So Hammill fails at the Zebs, and gets promoted to a job under Ratts?
this beggars belief.

Not keep them in the organisation.

Coached Sandy unsuccessfully

Now he’s back in the afl system?

Why?
Get rid of Hamill.
What the hell has he achieved as a coach?
Zebs have a habit of getting belted, they're the Gold Coast of the VFL.
P*ss him off and get somebody who knows what they're doing.

I'm not sure you can judge Hamill too much on his results at Sandringham. The reserves side is generally only as good as the firsts, and our firsts have been really bad. On top of that, he lost both Sam Gilbert and Nathan Wright in the middle of the season (for some reason which hasn't really been reported), that would have been a huge blow to them. The crippling injury list meant very few good players available, I mean they played without a ruck for most of the year!

Generally I feel like the young guys have been developing pretty well in the 2s, so maybe they think Hamill can work with some of the youngsters in some way.

I'd also add that he was coaching to prepare guys to play in Cho's team. He was teaching them Cho style.

Sammy and Ratts are good friends from way back.

Ratts was never the same player after Sammy left for the Saints.

They made a good team then and I'm prepared to bet they will again in 2020.

Probably the worst forwards coach we have had in 20 yrs ....promoted to Sandy....drive them into the ground.. promote him again...The guy is on a golden wicket...can't be run out.

It’s up to Ratten but Hamills been around for a while and some fresh thinking would’ve been the go imo
But what would I know?...
I’m just a wise old SS poster who happens to be really good looking, successful with millions of genuine Facebook friends..

Out of curiosity - what do you base your judgment on?

Which part? His record at Sandy and the piss poor development of second tier athletes through Sandy or his time coaching and developing our powerful forward line?
Hamill returned to the Saints in 2012 as a part-time forwards coach. In 2014 Hamill has stepped up to be the Saints full-time forwards coach until 2018.
Over that 6 yr period which forwards did he empower to be great? His reward? 2 seasons as Sandy coach ( you did see their record for 2018 and 2019, right?)

This by no means says anything about Hamill as a player. He was as courageous and passionate as they come. I loved his work.
