Tribute to Chris Liberatore
We should really complement Chris Liberatore for the excellent drafting he did last year.
1. Max King - Libba wanted Rozee but based on Lethlean’s choice went with Max.
2. Bytel - yet to be seen.
3. Parker - good late selection
4. Hind - great selection
5. Young - really late choice but may not make it
Rookie draft
1. Callum Wilkie - best player in the rookie draft
Mid season (seemed more of a gap filler)
1. Marsh
2. Rowe
3. Mayo
Overall, an excellent haul despite limited options. Mid season draft not so good but still the main show was pretty good.
I don’t give credit to Gallaghar as he only started before the draft and wasn’t coming from another club.
I don’t know who to blame for the fiasco with the live trades with North, but still the actual recruiting was pretty good. I think he was upgraded to national recruitment manager when Bulldogs were looking early last year.

Re: Tribute to Chris Libratore
Do we know for fact Libba wanted Rozee? Or is that just speculation??
Be very surprised if the head recruiter can be overruled by Lethlean? Not even the senior coach can do that?!

Sam McClure mentioned it in this pre draft article. He makes a lot of sense throughout the article but your choice to determine the reliability.

Re: Tribute to Chris Libratore
I absolutely adore Rozee as a footballer - and he's a mad keen St Kilda fan - but King had to be taken.
When we secure Ben King as well, it will all be worth it.
But I'd never stop trying to have a crack at Rozee in future years.

Rozee will stay in his home state of SA and enjoy a very fat contract there.
Sam McClure... FFS
We were almost a certainty to take King... and I would have selected him every day of the week

Absolutely right here. The draft that picked up McCartin and Goddard was the failure we didn't need. Max and Ben could end up with their names at each end of the ground one day

1. Max King has added zero value in his first year, and he's an injury risk. Lets hope he's a champion, but the jury is definitely out.
2. Bytel has added zero value in his first year, and he's an injury risk. Lets hope he's a champion, but the jury is definitely out.
3. Parker looked spectacular a handful of times, but not in our best 22
4. Hind looks like a good late pick
5. Young probably not good enough
6. Kent probably not good enough
1. Wilke looks like a great selection
1 Marsh probably not good enough
2. Rowe almost certainly not good enough
3 Mayo probably not good enough
To sum up, Hind & Wilke the only two on that list who've been able to hold a spot in our best 22, and I'm not sure if either would get a game with a premiership contender.

Re: Tribute to Chris Liberatore
I noted first up that King wasn’t Chris’s choice. It was Lethlean’s. He liked Rozee more. So, points for Rozee, rather than Max.Toy Saint wrote: ↑Mon 19 Aug 2019 8:51pmSorry, but I'm not impressed.axcellence wrote: ↑Sun 18 Aug 2019 7:44pm We should really complement Chris Libratore for the excellent drafting he did last year.

Bytel - again unproven but so was Cripps after year 1 with injuries. Let’s see next year how he goes.
Parker - not sure if he’s in the best 22 either but provides ok depth. Can do better next year with decision making and positioning if he wants an extension. Still a pat at the number he was selected. Anyone else around his selection that played a few games? There’s Marty Hore... but not a lot many others.
Young at #67 is unlikely and that’s no shame.
Kent wasn’t a draftee - he was traded in. I am no expert, but the way everything is noted... Chris is in charge of recruitment not list management? So, he’s more of a draft guru rather than player scouting/dealing with trades.
Marsh, Rowe and Mayo were picked for depth and I agree they can be done without next year.

Re: Tribute to Chris Liberatore
So why isn’t Lethlean the head recruiter?
If he had last say on our number 4 pick, well I suppose he is?
What I really reckon
Libba selected Max

Re: Tribute to Chris Liberatore
Was it his job to select Marshall in his draft?
In my eyes regarding the current loss of Paddy (No. 1 pick)
We have virtually pulled a 1 from the clouds with our emerging ruck/forward.

Re: Tribute to Chris Liberatore
I can confirm (take that however you may, I won't go into sources or the like) that Libba absolutely adored Rozee and wanted him incredibly badly at #4.

Re: Tribute to Chris Liberatore
We should have a #1 selection plus Rowan
If Lethlean can overrule a head recruiter, we are stuffed!
Doubtful that’s the case though

Re: Tribute to Chris Liberatore
I suspect that it is a committee process.
The head recruiter would have the most influence but able to overruled by a significant majority.

Re: Tribute to Chris Liberatore
There were a number of different media sources at the time indicating that Libba preferred Rozee.
