Re: Time to be ruthless......,
Well, considering we have seven players on our list who played not even one senior match this season, and most of them did not even play one reserves match, nobody on here is going to be surprised when a lot of players are cut.Bernard Shakey wrote: ↑Sat 17 Aug 2019 8:56pm There will be major list changes, and many on here will not be happy!
Then we have at least by my estimate five very experienced players who will have played five or less matches this season.
We are going to finish bottom five out of a field of eighteen and many of the players who are approaching and have surpassed the 50 games milestone are showing zero improvement. They were talented to start with but have stagnated.
We have messed up the rebuild, that much is obvious.
I posted on here at the beginning of this season that we would fail to win more than nine games in 2019, because we are still playing like we were in 2015 and today proves my point.
So long as the assistant coaching staff (those who were coaching pre-2019) face the same level of accountability I am fine with it.

Re: Time to be ruthless......,
To that List I would add Geary but retain Dunstan and Austin
And maybe Joyce given his progress
Today showed we do not have a full back with closing speed - these young key forwards not only have size they gave speed
Think Brisbane
So we need 196cm (at least) defenders to combat

There may well be.
Bottom line is our midfield lack true guns, and until that is addressed we are go to remain a team in the bottom half of the ladder. We also lack matacwinners. Guys that can trn games.
Our best mid is Steele (14 tackles today) who did a great job on Cripps today. But we need match winning mids.

It's about replacing them with better players. If there is no one better, then they obviously stay.
But we need to be actively turning these guys over.

Re: Time to be ruthless......,
Yep. It’s a midfielders game and our team is the only one without at least one genuine A grader. The game has been made into a showcase for the stars of the game to do their thing.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Sun 18 Aug 2019 12:09amBernard Shakey wrote: ↑Sat 17 Aug 2019 8:56pm There will be major list changes, and many on here will not be happy!

Re: Time to be ruthless......,
Ruthless is a harsh term. Rather no compromise on performance? Nice place to start but there has to be pragmatism - unfortunately for us.
Not having a tall marking forward or a big mobile CHB costs us. Battle in defence all year is a good band aid but there is a significant trade off.
Lonie is an also ran and the Club agonised over even signing him but injuries have made him a first pick.
Newnes lives on the edge of being dropped every week but it seems the list stocks are bare.
Long probably will be given the benefit of the doubt for another season.
It will take a little while for the Richo effect to wash through.
Were they buggered from last weeks mighty effort? Jack Steven would be embarrassed about his performance - or should be - but is he playing unfit and sore or just giving the Saints the finger as he leaves.
I'd guess Ratts is much stronger than Richo in giving players only a couple of chances before saying unacceptable and meaning it. Those few will hope he doesn't get the job.
When we have several passengers we lose, we need the team game firing and easy chances taken. Hannebery for all his class cannot see out a game, like Steven; that's a big brake on the MCG.
Brett mentioned the last game of the season being emotional for players leaving, he may not have meant just Sydney. Will J. Stevens, J. Newnes and N. Brown be given farewell games?

Re: Time to be ruthless......,
I think a lot of our important and best players are playing unfit and sore. So many of our players had major operations in the pre-season/at the beginning of the season proper and missed the work and conditioning.
I will be annoyed if we leave post season operations until late again.
If they need them, they should have them done straight after the Sydney match, to give them the best possible chance of having a good go at it in 2020.

None will be in the best 22 of a top 2 team.
You may have difficulties with the Fair Work Commission for that.
Add McCartin and Roberton both on medical grounds.
Pierce would be lucky to be retained.
Rowe & Marsh in serious danger.
None will be in the best 22 of a top 2 team.
The entire team list I assume you mean.
Fair call.
