I know we have to let him go but he will be a serious loss. He was magnificent today.

Can't he stay?
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Re: Stuv to take Ablett’s spot
He's given the club seriously good service so I would leave it to him to decide if he wants to stay or go - we do need to get minimum 1st draft pick if he does go.

Re: Stuv to take Ablett’s spot
He proved he can certainly win games from the forward line. Maybe that is the problem. Been busting his chops in the middle for years watching the ball come back at him time and time again. He may just see a way to stay.

I think he’s not fully match fit, so necessity created opportunity for him up forward.CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Sun 11 Aug 2019 5:47pm He proved he can certainly win games from the forward line. A cunning plan from a clever coach. Finally we have someone who is the real deal in the coaches box!

Sure he "can" , but he won't. He needs to make decisions now to foster the future he wants.

Surely after his experience today and the genuine love his team mates showed he can't leave us.

Re: Stuv to take Ablett’s spot
He’s contracted for next year also. I guess we could hold him to it.
While not knowing the particulars of his situation, I don’t see how moving closer to Lorne is going to be a life-changer for him.
He may be over-rationalising the situation. He might be better off where he is, with teammates and a good club behind him.

Re: Stuv to take Ablett’s spot
I drive an hour and 45min up and back twice a week to see my new nephew and older sister. Totally worth it but geez it is a ball breaker of a trip. I can't move any closer currently but it would be a life changer if we all lved closerbigcarl wrote: ↑Sun 11 Aug 2019 7:31pmHe’s contracted for next year also. I guess we could hold him to it.

Would hate to see him leave, especially becoming a handbagger.
Will be a sad day to see him booed by Saints fans - but the choice is his.

He would have to take a pay cut to play with the pussies from sleepy hollow or so I am led to believe.
Maybe if Gablett retires.....

The grass is always greener skeptic. I’m sure there would be cons as well if you made the move.skeptic wrote: ↑Sun 11 Aug 2019 7:40pmbigcarl wrote: ↑Sun 11 Aug 2019 7:31pmHe’s contracted for next year also. I guess we could hold him to it.

Re: Stuv to take Ablett’s spot
Would still entertain a quality young player in return....I.e Constable plus another player or second rounder. If he went for a first round pick I dont reckon it’s enough for us. A pick in the teens is a lottery. They all are to some extent, but a pick outside the top ten is too much of a lottery to compensate for a player like Stuv.

if it wasn't for last year I doubt he'd be wanting to leave. Has barely tasted success in his career at the saints.

If rats gets the job I reckon he’ll get him to stay. Otherwise we make him stay. Boost his contract whatever it takes

Re: Stuv to take Ablett’s spot
How horrible for him if him joining Geelong coincided with a downward spiral for the Cats while Saints were on the up.sainters85 wrote: ↑Sun 11 Aug 2019 7:57pm if it wasn't for last year I doubt he'd be wanting to leave. Has barely tasted success in his career at the saints.

Re: Stuv to take Ablett’s spot
At what age would you anticipate he would retire - then able to return to Loren on a full time basis for the rest of his life, so maybe another 60 years or more?
Further, given the demographic of Geelong’s List with their core all either at or older than 30, their demise is imminent which will put further pressure on continuing to play 30 year plus players
At St Kilda he will be the only 30 year plus player - until Hannebery turns 30
Spot the difference
When Ablett goes out of the door it is bye, bye Geelong because others will follow including because they are slipping down the ladder
The straight sets elimination last season was telling - as are the losses away from Geelong
