Bombers targeting Ben King
Bastards.
Guessing this might be a bit of payback for us interested in Draper.
Fairdinkum, the gall of that club.

Re: Bombers targeting Ben King
Told you....
Like a week after the draft last year.
OK to facilitate this it would take at least our first round pick, and potentially a player also dependant on our finish this year.
He's a CHB in my opinion.

Re: Bombers targeting Ben King
Nope.
Apparently he even said in conversation to one player welfare manager straight after the draft about how it would only be one year.
He has a very strong family unit. Wants to play with his twin brother.
I'd give up our first rounder in a heartbeat.

Re: Bombers targeting Ben King
A few thoughts:
2020 first rounder, not this year’s, but GC will probably want even more.
This was always going to be tricky to manufacture as it would come at a big price. Also, who says the club are even wanting him.
He’s still contracted so I highly doubt that that GC he will let him leave after just one season. Sets a very bad precedent.

Re: Bombers targeting Ben King
This would not worry Hawthorn or Collingwood - he would just threaten to sit out a year of football and suddenly he would be traded!!!!
St Kilda - get it done!!!!

Re: Bombers targeting Ben King
Should be our biggest trade target over the next year or 2.
If the club isn’t in his ear whispering big dough, then something’s up.
Having these 2 at either end of the ground for the next 10-15 years may just about be the biggest marketing triumph in the history of the game.
Think memberships, premierships, and the motherships of good times!!!
Go get him Saints!!

It's like landing on Mayfair, then trying to get the deal done to get Park Lane.
If we land both, could be game over!

Re: Bombers targeting Ben King
We should be offering ridiculous money to Bing to get it done ASAP. Happy to send a first rounder (preferably next year's) and one or two of Webster/Lonie/Newnes/Dunstan/McKenzie (all players with good qualities but I don't think they'll take us to a flag) to get it done. As long as we get him in the next two years I'm happy.
In an ideal world that would give us a 2021 team along these lines:
B: Wilkie, B. King, Coffield
HB: Roberton, Carlisle, Clark
C: Ross, Steele, Billings
HF: Battle, Bruce, Parker
F: Long, M. King, Membrey
Foll: Marshall, Gresham, Steven
Int: Acres, Bytel, Hannebery, Sinclair
I do believe that team would challenge for top 4. The main weakness there is probably the small forwards, so hopefully Parker and Long take the next step or we can recruit some A-graders for that position.

Re: Bombers targeting Ben King
Personally, I would offer our 1st round pick and next years 1st round pick for King and Sexton. Then throw in a steak knives player if it has to get over the line.

Yeah this has to happen.
Somewhat decent set of bookends.

Re: Bombers targeting Ben King
I just realised that if we get both Kings at the Saints for 15 years ... That’ll almost be the perfect amount of time before the Riewoldt crew (if they’re into footy of course) will be starting to become men... not bad replacements.

This would need AFL approval but I don't think this is allowed.tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Wed 31 Jul 2019 11:48am Personally, I would offer our 1st round pick and next years 1st round pick for King and Sexton. Then throw in a steak knives player if it has to get over the line.
Sexton is a gun. Can Sexton run through the mid-field?

- Clubs can trade one year in the future only.
- Clubs must make at least two first-round selections in each four-year period. If they don't, they will face restrictions from trading any further first-round draft picks.
- If a club trades a future first-round selection, it may not trade any other future selection from that same draft. But if a club keeps its future first-round selection, it can trade any of its future selections from other rounds.
Saints have had three first round selections in the last 2 drafts; King, Clark and Coffield.
So Saints can trade both this years and next years first round picks if desired.
So does not need AFL approval, and yes it would be allowed for us this year as we meet the rules.
PS: I would not do this deal. Two first round picks and no QUALITY mid when that is our No1 need.
Would certainly consider use of the picks for the right mid though. One can dream of Whitfield for both those picks, but will not happen.

Re: Bombers targeting Ben King
It's not illegal at all. If you want to leave a club and it can't be facilitated then, you have to sit out a year (almost as punishment). The only problem is that you then have to hope the club you want to get to finishes low enough to secure you in the draftSaintPav wrote: ↑Wed 31 Jul 2019 10:20amDid Cam McCarthy do that? Rules are there to be navigated around and tested to the max. Hawthorn have been doing it for over 10 years.
