Ratts targetting Saints job
From the herald sun.com
"Ratten targeting Saints vacancy
Tim Michell
Tim Michell reports…
Brett Ratten says his unbeaten start as St Kilda’s caretaker coach has whet his appetite for a return to fulltime coaching.
The Saints have defeated Western Bulldogs and Melbourne since former Carlton coach Ratten took charge from Alan Richardson.
As North Melbourne move closer to confirming Rhyce Shaw as Brad Scott’s replacement and David Teague mounts a strong case for the Carlton job, Ratten said he was focused on the St Kilda role.
“Are you putting your chips in one or spreading them across the table a bit? I would probably say mine are more in the St Kilda camp, for sure,” Ratten said on SEN.
Former St Kilda skipper Nick Riewoldt said Ratten was in the box seat to land the Saints job.
The 48-year-old’s impact since joining St Kilda has been praised.
Ratten said the passion of the club’s players was a key reason he had targeted the Saints vacancy.
“The boys, they just have a fair dinkum go,” he said.
“They play so hard and put everything on the line. They’re good lads and they are going about it in a great fashion, especially the last two weeks.
“I have really enjoyed my time here and I’d like to continue if that’s possible.”
Ratten said the greatest change between his tenure at the Blues and his two weeks at the helm of the Saints had been taking a calmer approach.
He said it was difficult to pinpoint why St Kilda, Carlton and North Melbourne had experienced spikes since turning to caretakers.
“Is it the players responding? Do they feel a bit guilty or are they put on notice because there’s a new coach? That uncertainty about what is going to happen at the footy club? I’m not sure,” he said.
“There is always a different voice because there is change and maybe a subtle difference in game plans.
“I can’t put my finger on it. History tells us when there’s a caretaker coach they usually win first up.”
Ratten spoke with Saints president Andrew Bassat last week but said he was unsure how the club’s appointment process would proceed.
“With the caretaker coaches, some of those questions are getting answered,” he said."
I would give him the job now . Have cooled on Banger a bit as Filth midfield is going backwards at the moment.

Interesting situation. Ratta is definitely a chance.
If you compare his coaching to Goodwin on Sat night, then Ratta is well ahead of him as a senior coach. Even the emotion and animation difference between those two in the last quarter was big.

Unless things really turn to crap, he should get the gig.

Players seem to really love him! Even the footy media seem to have a real crush on him at the moment. Maybe because the way that he speaks when being interviewed is just so nice and refreshing.

Firmly entrenched in the box seat. Will be very difficult to remove.
More than happy if he gets the gig, I think he is very, very capable.
Could he take us to the promised land? Why not.
Use the selection process to put together a dream team bunch of assistant's.

So far so good. Love how he is going about it.
The real test is Saturday night in Adelaide. We all know our record in Adelaide is horrible.
A 50 point blow out ... the norm; and we back peddle.
Win or get very close and his stakes rise rapidly. No PPT required!!!!

Re: Ratts targetting Saints job
Look, I think Ratts should be the favourite, and he would be my choice over both Lyon & Scott.
But, you don’t call someone a champion after a couple of games, nor do you give someone a coaching job on the back of two games vs bottom 8 teams.
Glad he’s coaching the team now, and not the front half. Now we just need to get some old Hawks premiership people together. Roughead should be courted.

Re: Ratts targetting Saints job
They have already been in talks. Though not as a forward coach role like you have been advocating.

REPORT: SAINTS TO TARGET IN-DEMAND VETERAN HAWK IN OFF-FIELD ROLE
St Kilda are interested in acquiring in-demand Hawthorn veteran Jarryd Roughead in an off-field role for next season, according to the Herald Sun.
It’s understood the Saints have contacted Roughead’s manager, Craig Kelly, regarding a possible move to Moorabbin to join the club’s football department.
The position would entail duties in coaching, leadership and list management.
According to AFL.com.au's Mitch Cleary, Gold Coast are also keen to secure the services of the four-time premiership Hawk in a similar role
St Kilda targeting Jarryd Roughead in bid to boost leadership and footy programs

St Kilda has launched a bid to bring Hawthorn premiership star Jarryd Roughead to the club next season in a key off-field role.
The Saints have registered their interest with Roughead’s manager, Craig Kelly, about him joining the club in a potentially multi-faceted football role after he retires.
There was another story somewhere (can't remember where now) of Roughie having been seen visiting RSEA Park.

To be fair, he could hardly say he's got his eye on the Carlton gig while he's coaching us!

Please stop wasting thread space like the other poster that seemed to be unhappy because I called Brett Ratten "Ratta" instead of "Ratts." Thank you and stick to the OP topic.
