Yeah, he never accomplished anything at the highest level.B.M wrote:Nothing
Wouldn’t have a clue what it takes for a team to succeed.
I mean, he couldn’t even get the media interested. Sponsors wouldn’t rate him either.
Yep, Warnie has nothing to offer the club.

Re: Warney.. Serious question??
You cannot be serious!!!!
Warney is the best leg spinner ever.
He had two outstanding attributes.
1) Practice.
You don't achieve what he did without ruthless dedication to training to reach the level of skill and precision that he did.
2) Pressure.
Time and again he was able to reproduce that elite skill level under intense pressure situations.
Our team would benefit enormously from improving in those attributes.
Warney could be part of the inspiration to achieve that.

They said on triple M this afternoon how he’d help players like JB and Gresh, ie: if they have things on their minds he’d make it that it wouldn’t affect their football as he was pretty good with all the crap he had going on to still be the best bowler of leg spin.

A range of SW23 sports wear!
I joke
But - certainly the media would be interested.

Re: Warney.. Serious question??
Warney was a talented leg spinner, obviously he worked hard on his craft. Not so much on his fitness. He was elite performer, was he the ultimate professional?
He is also like KP, provocative, at times divisive character.
So his advice would be,
Train hard (possibly play hard?), and when the pressures on, want the ball in your hand.
Wow!!
Most would know that? Can they live it, well it’s intrinsic
I love how people are so simplistic
If Lenny Hayes Coaches we would be a tough team because Lenny was
If plugger was goal kicking coach, we’d all be great kicks because he was
Maybe get N Winmar coaching, because then we could all kick on the left because he could
It’s one thing to be good, it’s another thing to communicate to others on how to be good.
Warne was a great leg spinner, not sure what his role at a footy club should be
Maybe we should get Murali, he was a better spinner, and a better bloke from all reports.

Being at the club doesn’t mean he will be sitting in the box on game day.

Re: Warney.. Serious question??
Ignoring any sporting knowledge/tips/ etc I believe that Bassat was looking to get him onto and/or working with the Board.
"I did have a chat with Andrew Bassat at the start of this football season, talking about possibly (being) on the board or having a bigger role and impact at the St Kilda footy club but with the World Cup and the Ashes on this year - when I'm spending a lot of time in England - it wasn't the right time."
With Warne's connections he could be quite valuable in aspects like bringing in more Sponsorship, helping with Marketing Campaigns etc. Last time I saw the balance sheet we needed more $$$. Pretty sure we still do.
Football Clubs are not just about the pure football things. Successful clubs get very strong offield as well.

Re: Warney.. Serious question??
Totally disagree.
Murali played most of his games on the sub continent on spinning decks.
Shane Warne is easily the best spin bowler ever.

Re: Warney.. Serious question??
Some people want Bassat to be a White Knight and resurrect the club.
Maybe, just maybe one way he will do this is by recruiting other White Knights?
Seems logical to me that if he can recruit/convince other power-brokers, and people of influence, to invest their time in making the Saints successful, that it may just happen.
Our last period of successful came about when RB, GT, MK, GR, BW and others all got together with a determination to resurrect the club.

Re: Warney.. Serious question??
Are you suggesting Murali never got wickets away from home Barks? I think he averaged around 20 with the ball in England. Didn’t tour Aus for years, for obvious reasons. I’d say he performed well in all conditions.
An you’ve got to consider Warne’s lack of success in India, and particularly against star players like Tendulkar, Lara, Pietersen and Dravid.
Warne was very accurate for a leggy, turned it pretty big (not as much as McGill) and could work out batsmen tactically. 708 wkts at 26
Murali, a freak, also deadly accurate, with unpickable doosra. 800wkts at 22
Both legends
I’d take Murali in Asia, Warne in SA and Aus, both in Eng

I don't think Murali ever played for St.Kilda, probably isn't a supporter and I don't think he is that popular in Australia. Good bowler but nah!!.

Re: Warney.. Serious question??
You can put your negative spin on it all you want. You say saviours, I say leaders and doers rather than just grandstanders.
However Saviour: a person who saves someone or something from danger or difficulty
With huge debt and other problems we are need of improved effort and outcomes offield. It is not just our playing list that needs improving.
You are naive if you believe that successful clubs do not get successful people involved offield.
If Bassat tried to only do it by himself then I would be worried. He has approached Warne and so you can be sure that he has approached others.

Star power, influence, connections, $'s and....some spin.
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.
