Thankfully we got rid of Mr Beige now not too late.

This is why we can’t afford to have another Beige coach (I reckon Banger would be that) and we get someone who wants some serious churn to the list.

I agree with a lot of what Marto has said

Free agency loss, Newnes

Trade for the right price or keep
Any of Carlisle, Steven, Ross, Dunstan, Acres, Longer (or delist), Webster.

Keep the rest
Add, draft picks, trades, Free Agents, Rookie Picks

There should be up to a dozen changes imo
I think you are closer to the money than many comments on this thread

There is no way it will be only around 6

I thought minimum 8 max 12,,

For sure we will be throwing out for trades

Acres to GCS for Will Brodie as an eg.

Some would say that about someone threatening not to renew their membership if the club makes a decision they don’t like

I think that 6 would be very much the lower bound.

However we do not know yet how many medical retirements.
- Robbo would be one that they definitely will want to keep if they can
- Paddy is more problematic for even if they get the all clear for his current issue (which seems unlikely) then his would suggest that he will some concussion again
- Longer I would delist regardless
- Pierce I would delist regardless

For a back up ruck I would look elsewhere.
So that is 2, maybe 4 from this group.

Trades
- How much interest other clubs have is completely unknown. Club will want to be a serious trader, but that requires other clubs wanting to trade and to give up something of ok value (apart from Clarlisle who I personally would like to keep that will at best be unders).

You could well trade out 6 players for other players or picks. But it could easily end up being none due to lack of interest.

Newnes as a FA.
Again no club may be interested in him. If he does go compo pick will be tied to contract value which is not likely to be high as it will not attract a long-term deal, or high $$ per year.

The Draft
We do not have a second or third rounder. So this will probably see us looking for more "Parkers, Hines and Wilkies". However it is unlikely that the club would want to take 6 players from this category. So we need to trade for some more picks to to hit the draft had. But Trades may or may not happen.

So overall I think the club would like to turn the list over a fair amount, but how much is going to be constrained by no 2/3 rounders and how much we can actually trade.

Just such a pity we used future trading of picks like an 18 y.o. with his first credit card.

There has to be a minimum of 6 delistings but more likely 8 to 10 will be either delisted or traded out.

There has to be a minimum of three places available for the draft so a minimum of 3 to be retired or delisted.
Teams can delist as many as they wish.

Newnes is a free agent (unsure if restricted or not)
I think he's like Lonie last year, but I hope he leaves

In my view, given where the St Kilda List is, you do not trade or seek to trade out players with talent

What you do do is identify the underbelly and turn that underbelly to improve - which takes time before you get to identify the players who will improve the List

So you do not trade out Carlisle or Steven or Acres or Dunstan

There are plenty at the other end of our List to look to rotate looking for improvement

Leading into this season many seem to ignore that we added mature aged players from the State Leagues for a reason

Our experienced core is not where it needs to be

So we look at Free Agency players

And Draft Picks noting the top two Draft Picks going into this season have not played yet

Plus some low hanging fruit from other Clubs looking for opportunity aka Membrey, Steele, Bruce et al

If any sides are interested in players with deficiencies then we could offer a few starting with Geary, Savage and Ross

Including because given the demographic of our List they are surplus to needs

Clark and Coffield (and White?) are the future of our non KPP defenders

And we have sufficient big bodied mids

To the rucks - exit Longer and Pierce where is the support for Marshall?

Of course, we did have Hickey but preferred Longer = exit Coach

Just a call out to those taking up trading out Carlisle, Steven, Acres and Dunstan

These players, with their class, are at the core of our rebuild

Brown made another good case to play on next year.

All in all he has actually had quite a good season this year when played.

Given injuries and unknown qualities of our other key backs you would think he could well stay on unless we bring someone else in. Caveat would be he might spend some time in the twos so we can get games into others.

Hopefully Claravino and Austin will bring pressure on Brown in 2020

I am one who believes you start with your defence which is why I am pleased to see Coffield and Clark delivering in the positions they were drafted to perform in

Plus we have the very talented and composed Carlisle

Wilkie and Roberton would round out our defence quite nicely including because of ball usage skills

And White remains of interest to me, at least

I am hoping Clark & Coffield will both push into the midfield next year. Allow White, Langlands & any other kid to use the HB line to find their feet & establish themselves after Clark & Coffield have graduated.

So far Coffied has not been showing the mid like abilities that Clark had on show today. I suspect that Coffield is going to be more a flanker type. But he is young (7 months younger than Clark) and so early days yet.

Contracts can be bought out by mutual agreement.
If there is room left in the salary cap those buyouts can be included in the 2019 cap.
The entire administration should be sacked if there is not enough space.
However it may be helpful in achieving the minimum salary total for 2020 if part or all of the buyout is included in 2020.
On this years performance the minimum is all that the player deserve.
No performance bonuses for 2019, earn them for 2020.

Roberton was extended to 2021 so has 2 years still left.
Roberton will put his commitments to his family first.

Some goon extended McCartin to 2020 so he has 1 year still left.
The problem with Paddy seems to be he refuses to accept that he is no longer an AFL player.
If he is not an AFL player then he is a nobody with no other skills.
A sad ending for a young kid crippled by bad health.

If your contract expires in 2019 you would want your manager screaming for a contract renewal offer.
That includes everyone in any form of coaching role as well.
The club will probably do no more renewals until the end of the home & away season, appoint the new coach in time for himself to assess the list himself.
Ratten has to decide whether he wants to allow players under risk to shows their wares or whether he wants to select the best 22 every week in an attempt to boost his own head coach chances.
I hope he does the former but that is not in his own best interest.

Every investor knows to expect management of a company to act in their own best interest.
That is why remuneration reports always reveal how management is incentivised.
Others may have to intervene in team selections and time on ground.

Assistant coaches know that their tenure evaporated with Richardson's forced resignation.
New head coaches normally get to appoint their own team of assistant coaches.
It is hard to argue for your assistant job to a new head coach when the team finishes in the bottom four.

Those believed to have contracts expiring in 2019
David Armitage
Nathan Brown
Jake Carlisle
Luke Dunstan
Billy Longer
Jack Newnes
Bailey Rice
Shane Savage
Brandon White
Jonathan Marsh
Sam Rowe

Rookies "A"
Darragh Joyce
Lewis Pierce
Doulton Langlands
Jack Mayo

The club list size has 2 excess on the senior list and 1 excess on the rookie A list but it would be surprising if Callum Wilkie already contracted through 2021 were not moved to the senior list.
That means excess of 3 on the senior list and 0 on rookie A
Space must also be cleared for net trade imports and 2019 draft selections.

Agree and it’s common sense.

Look what Happened when we lost BJ, Dal, McEvoy & Stanley.

We got 4 potato cakes and minimum chips. And we didn’t even get any freebie cakes either!!!

Could say the same about White though, played even less than Rice. Rice was actually playing well and strung games together at the back half of last year, low and behold though dmac got in this year and stayed in for reasons only known to the coaching staff. If Rice is still no good with a new set of eyes then fine delist.
