Skrobolak new Forward coach
Seriously!
A lower level Ruckman, former part time Ruck coach is now an AFL Forwards coach.
How many games at the level, how many games as a Forward at the level?!
This is a long with a former Ruckman being the Mids coach
And a former gun mid being the Forward coach?!
Here’s a thought
Have experts in their area of expertise?!!

Skrobalak was supposed to be a really really good player...

It is only a temporary appointment for 6 weeks.
Once the new head coach is appointed they will no doubt review all the assistants.

Re: Skrobolak new Forward coach
Can you explain why a three time Best and Fairest midfielder and stoppage expert who coached the midfield in a triple premiership team,
Was given a job as an assistant coach... to coach the forward line?!
Are we in the business of putting coaches where they are suited best or are we up-skilling them by giving them jobs they’ve never had?! To learn?!
FFS this is not the TAC Cup, this is the real deal, and we have coaches learning new roles on the job?! Fair Dinkum!
Lade should have been a Ruck coach
Ratten the midfield coach
And a proper Forward coach running our offence

Absolutely knows his stuff. No surprise the advancement of Marshall. Maybe you might all just wait and see.

Re: Skrobolak new Forward coach
That's good to hear.
Looks like the vibe is pretty upbeat down there, Tony. Will be interesting to see how it translates to on-field performance.
*Allegedly.

Re: Skrobolak new Forward coach
He probably does, as a Ruck coach
He was a Ruckman after all
Now he is given a position where he has to be in the 18 best forward coaches in the AFL having never done it!
Why we needed a Ruck coach, when we have a 200 game premiership Ruckman on our coaching staff is ridiculous.

The best teachers are rarely the best performers, they have a gift of seeing what many don't in people. They know the plan well and how to communicate that to different personalities. Champions were champion players.B.M wrote: ↑Thu 18 Jul 2019 8:29pm He probably does, as a Ruck coach

Re: Skrobolak new Forward coach
You are a posting contradiction. Don't you argue that coaches don't influence how you personally play. You also strongly argue it's simple game and I couldn't agree more so surely a midfielder can teach a forward to run and jump at the ball just like a forward could teach a mid to see ball get ball and kick it towards the goals and or a forward.B.M wrote: ↑Thu 18 Jul 2019 7:21pm Seriously!

Ummm, weren't you the dude that was adamant that a change of coach won't do anything?B.M wrote: ↑Thu 18 Jul 2019 7:52pm Can you explain why a three time Best and Fairest midfielder and stoppage expert who coached the midfield in a triple premiership team,

Now you're highlighting a poor Cho decision that will be rectified by him being sacked.

I would have thought Hamill or Brereton were more qualified/suited to this role than Skrobalak or Ratten for that matter!

Actually he was Dandy's coach last year. Good young coach. Tony as usual is spot on.B.M wrote: ↑Thu 18 Jul 2019 7:21pm Seriously!

Re: Skrobolak new Forward coach
We are not alone. Have a look at some of the following. Collingwood - Brenton Sanderson. ex half back, Geelong, - James Rahilly 11 goals in 90 games. Port power - Nathan Basset played a defender. Most of these were not specialists in their respective lines.

Re: Skrobolak new Forward coach
I didn’t say coaches have no impact, of course they do, particularly line coaches who work directly with their line players. Head coaches influence how well the line coaches coach.
And the head coach can make strategic moves on match day, to effect the game.
They just don’t have the absolute influence over results, and the talent level of a team is far more important.
I’ll give you an extreme example
If I coached an AFL team against Al Clarkson coaching a VFL team, I would get a win over Al. A 4 time premiership coach.
When two teams are closely matched, the coach can definitely be the deciding factor.
Which team that we were closely matched with this year, did we lose to?
Tony, I’m sure you’re a lovely guy, and I like hearing your positive news updates, but I reckon if Satan was appointed to coach at StK, you’d be convinced that it was a great move and tell us how fantastic he is in the role.

Ratten in his press conference also stated that Skrobolak was a very good young coach.B.M wrote: ↑Thu 18 Jul 2019 9:31pm I didn’t say coaches have no impact, of course they do, particularly line coaches who work directly with their line players. Re: Skrobolak new Forward coach
Dandy’s coach?? They play Div 3 SFL
He was of course Frankston’s coach in the VFL who finished last, which was predicted so no slight on him.
Before that, he was a part time ruck coach at StK
Before that he was at TAC cup level as a coach I believe? Western Jets?
I reckon he may well be a good coach. However, he does not have the experience or expertise to be an AFL forward line coach... having never played or coached that line

Re: Skrobolak new Forward coach
I reckon Pierce and Marshall can take most of the credit for their own improvements.
Pierce was a 6th year AFL system ruckmen, starved of opportunity due to playing second fiddle to Longer, Hickey or Holmes in the VFL. He finally got a crack and predictably did ok, he was B&F at Frankston, but remember how poor Frankston were and he was the only player in their team with AFL experience, and he was training full time with an AFL Club.
Pierce has shown to be average at league level since.
If anyone watched Marshall the last two years, his talent was obvious, all he needed was an AFL body and tank. 2m tall, could run, jump, Mark well, kick well and could find the pill. He had to sit behind Hickey in the VFL, and still looked promising as a fwd.
The best value draft pick since Sam Fisher... maybe Jack Steven? He had gun written all over him, and it was only a matter of time.
