Re: Ratten on caretaker role
Wants the full time gig apparently. Being reported today.
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Re: Ratten on caretaker role
Experience and maturity showing through. Has a good grasp on where he, the players and the club are at.
Don't be surprised to see some new players being given an opportunity.
Best wishes Brett !

Re: Ratten on caretaker role
Personally I would have no problem with his appointment. Would probably help from a stability perspective as he's been there so now concentrate on building the current list and position ourselves for the draft and trade period. Continued support from the powers to allow him to do his job.

Re: Ratten on caretaker role
What are the chances of Ratten being at the club next year as an assistant? If he interviews for the top job but doesn’t get it, will he stick around? Not sure if I can see that happening.

Or if he already has a relationship with Harves maybe he’d stay on under him?supersaints2 wrote: ↑Thu 18 Jul 2019 1:41pm That's the worry...

Re: Ratten on caretaker role
I hope he does well and gets another try with us or elsewhere - seems deserving of it.
Slightly off topic, I wonder if that's a recent photo of Dylan Roberton training or a stock one?

Re: Ratten on caretaker role
And isn't this exactly why you can get a spike in performance, Carlton and North are a perfect example, has very little to do with the caretaker coaches changing things like game plans. In actual fact you would be mad to tinker with the game plan too much initially. Probably not until you go from caretaker to permanent if that transpires.
Players that were faves and non faves are all of a sudden working harder for different motivation factors all of which surmount to greater team intensity. It's rarely sustainable as thing usually settle down and return to normal programing when the motivation factors fade, wax and wane.
Have the courage to call out r ACE ism

Re: Ratten on caretaker role
I did chringe when he said "pleasing " in the first few minutes... we need to burn Richos management manual...
Rich had said after his trip away that his feedback needed to be more "positive"
he could have used many terms
I wish Ratts would said it was good, rather than pleasing ... First change I would make.
Richo said pleasing that many times I'm sure the players rolled their eyes

Re: Ratten on caretaker role
who was the d**khead who questioned his record as a caretaker coach ? (six losses)
what about his COACHING record - 60 wins, 1 draw, 59 losses ??

Re: Ratten on caretaker role
That interview told the story about need for change !!! Spoke honesty without the clinical and sterile crap we heard from Richardson.
So happy to hear young playing getting a look in. That’s the future. Not the Newnes types gifting a game week in week out. Also prepared to throw magnets around which Richardson did not.

Re: Ratten on caretaker role
Saw on AFL com he is open to returning to blues. If we lose him to the blue baggers I will be pissed. This is a huge sliding doors moment for our club. Unless we land a gun coach, eg roos Clarkson then surely give ratten the role. He took Carlton to multiple final appearances and got sacked in what turned out to be one of the dumbest decisions ever

Re: Ratten on caretaker role
Some interesting parallels with our coaching change this weekend...
The last time St Kilda had a caretaker coach (Grant Thomas), his first game was against the Bulldogs at Docklands (R16 2001).
The last match Brett Ratten coached resulted in a St Kilda win (R23 2013).
The first match Ratten coached as a caretaker resulted in a St Kilda win (R17 2007)
Brett Ratten's final game as Carlton coach was also Scott Watters final game as St Kilda coach.

Re: Ratten on caretaker role
That's right. Better to be vanilla and not have any aspirations to become a successful footy club. Better to choose a coach with no ambition, who treats the role like an 'ordinary' job, speaks in cliches and considers themselves powerless to effect change and drive excellence in the organisation
If the next coach is prepared to aim for the ultimate and if he believes he needs five years to get us there, then we should not baulk and just play it safe for the sake of outside perceptions
Leigh Matthews made an off the cuff remark on Game Day last week on Channel 7. I think it was in regard to Paul Roos getting a gig as a mentor or director of coaching and the amount of pay that Roos would likely demand. I think St Kilda should sound out Lethal and see how serious he was about getting back to a club environment.

I thought Watters last game for us was against Freo?Beno88 wrote: ↑Thu 18 Jul 2019 4:01pm Some interesting parallels with our coaching change this weekend...

Re: Ratten on caretaker role
Nice baiting attempt. You conveniently left out my second sentence which was:
"Being reported today."
I am basically acknowledging the media is reporting this fact.
Very bad baiting attempt. Give it a rest next time. Who is the idiot now?
Lol. Too easy.
