Geelong FC Rubbing Salt in Our Wounds...

Post: # 1806555Post Sainternist »

As per bloody usual.

Maybe I'm just a precious buttercup, but I just loved (like a bloody hole in the head) how after the VFL curtain-raiser last night they went and played a 2009 grand final mini-documentary over their two TV scoreboards, as a form of pre-match entertainment for the half hour or so that it ran for. Gee whiz, it's already decade ago since that GF, but I still get Nam-style flashbacks from seeing that kinda stuff. Despite the cold weather there, I was in a good mood before they went and took a dump on us away supporters like that. That put me in an "emo" mood for the entire duration of the match

Stay classy, Geelong, you sheepshafting bumpkins!!

Yeah thanks for sports science you cheating c***s - so Bomber Thompson rocks up to Essendon with no prior form? Watch that 2009 home and away game again and see where the endurance and stamina kick in for them in Q4 - a remarkable win for us, given we were up against the East Germany of the AFL - Demetriou asleep at the wheel or was he?

I like watching the 09 game despite the loss.

Have never watched it.
Nor the 1997 and 2010 replay.

Just can't watch them.

Lol

What else are you into? Whips and chains, hot candle wax and nipple torture, as well as various other forms of BDSM?

Lol.

Nah. Just think it was a good game of footy. I can't watch the 97 game though.

It was a great game of footy, but I just find the idea of reliving it too heart-wrenching. I was there and experiencing it on that freezing cold day made it all the more indelible in my memory.

Seeing the distraught faces of kids with tears in their eyes when I looked around in abject disbelief (with tears in my eyes, distraught) was too much for me - no sticking around for an presentations, never ever wanting to be reminded if that feeling.

I will though watch the VHS of our 96 ansett cup win again against Carlton at waverely - it's not much but it's significant to us

+1. I literally leave the room or turn away if it ever comes on a screen that I'm near. Sadly - I can pretty much remember it all; don't need it highlighted for me again in all its technicolor nightmare.

Maybe we can answer your question by examining his behaviour since leaving the AFL.

Andrew Demetriou was paid $75,100 a month and $1.6m in shares for chairing an advisory board for Acquire Learning, for three days a week of work in an office downstairs from the directors.
Acquire Learning went into administration in May 2017.
Former AFL boss Andrew Demetriou grilled in court about $145m Acquire Learning collapse.

A week before Acquire received a letter from law firm Clayton Utz suggesting the company was teetering on the edge of trading while insolvent, Mr Demetriou asked the company to approve a $150,000 BONUS payment for "professional services as agreed".
Asked by counsel for the liquidator, Damien McAloon, what the basis for seeking the $150,000 bonus was, the former North Melbourne Aussie Rules player told the Commercial Court of the Supreme Court of Victoria he could not remember.

Should watch the 2007 Geelong season- they were pretty ordinary, then had a review, and some of those players sure did bulk up in a quick time as the season went on..recovery from injury was amazing. It wasn't all gym work IMO..I notice their coach at the time is still having issues in one form or another. That's all I'm going to say.

Can watch 2009. Just a great game of footy.
Can watch 2010 draw. See above.

Can't watch 1997. Far, far too emotional. That's the most heartbreaking day in the history of the club.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

It is all tainted and speculative, and would be quite funny if we weren't caught up in it all. Reckon we'd be most horrified if we knew the full truth. Jeezarse

We came up against teams on the gear in both the 2009 Grand final and the 2010 replayed grand final. Imho that is.

Not just your opinion - there were links in Essendope thread published by the Age and Herald Sun which disappeared not long after - page not found
If anyone has hard copies of the papers those opinions are still there, pity my grandfather isnt still alive - his habit of holding on to newspapers coincided with his descent into madness - there's something for every Saints supporter in that
