I thought the umpiring was very good tonight, except for the one they missed with the Geelong player being swung around 1080 degrees which should’ve been holding the ball.

It was crap umpiring. Three f****** times the ball was knocked out of the saint players hands and each time a free was paid to the opposition for incorrect disposal.. Even the coach acknowledged we got screwed.
Our forwards were pushed, scagged and blocked all night for no frees while crap frees were paid down the other end.

The maggots are spoiling our games to the point they are not worth watching.

I've always questioned when coaches say we did not lose because of the umpires or a particular shot for goal. How can anyone know what would have followed if the correct decision was made rather than an incorrect one or a scoring play came off. Chaos Theory. Poor decisions may not change the result, but who knows in games where the margin is less than 5 goals.

One thing I believe is true, and is a sleeper the AFL should try to fix, is the insidious practice of name players getting an unfair advantage from officials and lower sides being victimised by poor or unconsciously biased umpiring. It often means lower teams are effectively 3 goals or a player down from the get go. If scoring shots and LBWs can be reviewed perhaps sides need to be given 3 reviews each during a game. Will slow down play but might stop some umps being so cavalier when it comes to the Fyfes, Abletts, Dangerfields and 360 turns while held, and dead heat marks.

The AFL needs to hold an investigation into the performances of umpires. They could start by allowing commentators to call out incorrect and missed decisions.
Betting on sport covers a giant range of options these days ie particular performances in a particular quarter. Perhaps they should hand their phones in before they are allocated their games. Do we know how big the betting markets are outside Australia?
No one wants to consider this is a possibility but it is happening in most other sports and ours is the most open to interpretation..
Can’t see an umpire risking his job because he doesn’t like particular players, but may be intimidated by some to reward them, but surely not to the game changing extent we are currently seeing.

If you make the umps answerable we will not have umpires...if you don't they are always correct and the game is adjudicated as they see fit.

Gee, that Sheepshafter crowd cried their eyes out during the last minutes of the game when they didn't get a free kick for an apparent deliberate out of bounds. Couldn't understand why they were so upset. They had the game in the bag. Entitled whingers!

Twice we had players with the ball who were pushed with both hands in the middle of the back causing them to go to ground. They were then tackled and pinged for holding the ball.

It happened to Gresham in the middle of the ground and Savage near the boundary.
