Saints banking on youth

The side does have a more futuristic look about it this week. I don't think we will see Brown and Armitage again depending on injuries and other matters such as the win tally.

Also got told the review was pretty brutal and honest.

Shouldn't all reviews be honest?tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Sat 29 Jun 2019 3:43pm Also got told the review was pretty brutal and honest.
And when you cough up 9 goals in a quarter - that will naturally be a 'brutal'.
I find the media commentary around this really weird. We haven't played in a final in years, have only beaten 2 decent teams in 6 years and just got brained by a young team on our home ground - yet there's surprise that there's been an honest feedback session?

Incidently, the players must be experiencing dejavu every few weeks...this article is from 12 months ago.

That's terrible, isn't it. Nothing has changed.
This is interesting though, in a bad way (from the article last year)....
STRUGGLING SAINTS (rounds 1-11)
Total Rank
Percentage 71.7 16th
Points For 68.3 16th
Points Against 95.2 15th
Shot at Goal Accuracy % 43 16th
% Time in Front 15 17th
Quarters Won 12 17th
Scores from Turnover Diff. -17.4 14th
Scores from Stoppages Diff. -7.1 16th
This year, we average 73 Points For, and are 15th. We've improved only 1 position in this stat.
We now average 88 Points Against and are 14th. Again, we've only improved 1 position in this stat.
And this is where the media are missing the point on Cho. Last year, only being 1 position worse in both that numbers resulted in a 1-10 start to the season. This year, it looks like 6-7 due to our Draw and some good fortune.

It was a player led review. Good stuff and about time.

Can't see the lineup giving the Tiges much trouble. And that's because we've got too much youth. Biggest problem is a missing tall in the foward line and some A grade midfielders. Out backline is the positive.

Ahhh yes - good to see the old “pre-emptive strike”.... get those excuses on board before we get spanked.HighettMan wrote: ↑Sat 29 Jun 2019 5:45pm Can't see the lineup giving the Tiges much trouble. Never mind Richmond’s own injury toll.

Not a fan of coffield being selected. Seen him at sandy and he isn't ready yet. Not even close. Not saying he won't be a good player later but at present he is average at best

Interesting piece.
Explains a lot that he says Newnes has been an outstanding player for us.
He hasn't been that for 2 years.
He also said the consistency in his performance has been there - This is true consistent ( not saying consistently good - just consistent).

Re: Saints banking on youth
Nine players with under 25 matches experience.
Mind you, Richmond have made 7 changes and they are coming off the bye. They could be a bit rusty, but we will need to start well and convert our opportunities.
This is a rare chance for several new St Kilda players to make a name for themselves tomorrow afternoon. The young Bulldogs did it tonight as did the 'Roos.
No excuses tomorrow.

Ted, where are we going to rebound to?tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Sat 29 Jun 2019 10:38pm Nope. Got some inside gossip again but can't share it unfortunately. Expect a rebound sunday.
The way you talk, is that we're a great team that's just going through a rough patch and we will find our old form again at some stage. The problem is, that our 'old form' is putrid. We've never been any good - so when we 'rebound', what will that look like?
I reckon we've probably only 2 or 3 genuine scalps in the past 5 years. Are we still looking at the aberration 2 years ago against Richmond as our benchmark? Surely not.

Re: Saints banking on youth
Yes there is.
They are poorly coached, played out of position and as a result most players on the list are not fulfilling their potential.

Beating botton 4 teams by 2 points?
Clearly, I'd love to see us magically improve somehow, but I find it hard to envisage given there have been no suggestions over the past 5 years that we will (or can).
I scratch my head when I see the terms 'bounce back' and 'rebound' used.
