Mental health issues
We miss Jack Steven.. Was our best player. As a society we are encouraged to talk about mental health.. I wonder about Jack Steven s mental health.. How long can you stay away from your employment.. Without serious doubt on your position.. What's up with Jack.. Is it Richo related? Or is it just that Jack has lost the love for footy.. Is that mental health??

Back training full time. Talking to kids and signing autographs at training. Not far away. He’s ok.

a) How Long... IndefinitelyRubyjo wrote: ↑Thu 27 Jun 2019 10:13pm We miss Jack Steven.. Was our best player. As a society we are encouraged to talk about mental health.. b) Doubt on your position... correlates to your perceived value to your position
c) Richo related... beyond maybe stressed or unhappy, is unlikely and that’s not mental health
d) Loss of love for footy... depression can lead to loss of enjoyment in activities but again seems unlikely given what we know about his personal circumstances

Re: Mental health issues
I would think that focusing on his health hence his time away from the club. I doubt many players would be able to maintain their fitness outside of a high performance environment / schedule (both at and away from the club).
And that’s just using commen sense.

Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Re: Mental health issues
Is "mental health issues" the new-age code for "drug issues"?
There is a strong suggestion that at least one player (at another club) who has missed matches because of "mental health issues" actually has a drug problem.
Is this a cloak clubs now employ to hide drug related issues?

I think you’ll find this very question was debated on here when jack initially went awolEnrico_Misso wrote: ↑Sat 29 Jun 2019 12:54am Is "mental health issues" the new-age code for "drug issues"?

Who knows? It’s a sad world now that for many of us, this is always a suspicion. Speak to anyone off the record in the industry and they’ll confirm some pretty damming things about our ‘heroes ‘

Re: Mental health issues
From the title I thought we had all been sprung. Nevertheless I am still going to think of five things I like about the Saints every day until we win three in a row. Today I like the way Jack Steven has been cared for; I like that he will be back; I love the way he plays; I like his cheeky grin; I like the way he took a goal square mark years ago to nail a game against Geelong, I love the unlikely comebacks he has sparked for us. Oops must save the last one for another day. Good on you Jacky, keep well.

Re: Mental health issues
In general society 'mental health' and 'drug issues' are often related.Enrico_Misso wrote: ↑Sat 29 Jun 2019 12:54am Is "mental health issues" the new-age code for "drug issues"?

It's reasonable to assume that a significant number of AFL players use, or have used various drugs. A percentage of these would have been 'detected', and another percentage of players would be known to the club for drug use.
So it begs the question, how do the AFL and Clubs choose to advise supporters when a player has a drug problem, or if a player is serving a drug suspension?

Re: Mental health issues
Mental health and gambling issues are also often related. It's a problem across our general population as well as within football circles. It's up to our leaders in society/government/business groups to ensure that young people are educated and that we regulate. And I don't mean self regulation either.Toy Saint wrote: ↑Sat 29 Jun 2019 3:04pmIn general society 'mental health' and 'drug issues' are often relatedEnrico_Misso wrote: ↑Sat 29 Jun 2019 12:54am Is "mental health issues" the new-age code for "drug issues"?

On the subject of the public being given information about players, I don't think it's the best option for player's welfare and it is probably breach of privacy as well. Clubs do a pretty good job with management of drug and gambling problems and I think it's in their interest to ensure that players are in a good frame of mind so that they can perform on the field at their best
Education and prevention strategies are the key.

It's ok to not comment if you know FA about a subject.Scollop wrote: ↑Sat 29 Jun 2019 5:09pmMental health and gambling issues are also often related. Re: Mental health issues
Mental health and drugs are far more related although compulsive gambling can be a problem in a small percentage of cases, in my experience.Scollop wrote: ↑Sat 29 Jun 2019 5:09pmMental health and gambling issues are also often related.
