Completing the picture....
Dont mind me..... just connecting some dots....
Gil McLachlan mates with Finnis. Finnis now at St.Kilda
Finnis/McLachlan/Lethlean mates. Lethlean now at St.Kilda
Gubby Allen - mates at hierarchy of St.Kilda. Allen now at St.Kilda
Lethlean and Brad Scott - mates... Brad Scott to St.Kilda?
Lethlean and Hannebery’s old man - ridiculously long big money contract for Dan Hannebery, now at St.Kilda
Unknown ruckman at Essendon.... supposedly offered 1.7m contract..... List Manager - James Gallagher.... wait for it..... teammate of said Ruckman’s manager, Michael Doughty.
I dont know.... just seems magical to me.

Wow. There are connections and circles in the AFL footy world. Crazy!!!
Maybe that is Lethers in the back seat at minute 1.01!

However...... when you dig a little deeper and start realise that it is leading to (extra)ordinary decision making that no one else seems to be making.... well.... I don’t know......I just find it a little bit funny.

Re: Completing the picture....
Connections are one thing. Potential incompetence (or paying above market value for an unknown/untried player) or potential conflicts of interest is another
Not performing due dilligence on a player and admitting 6 months later that he needs a 'rebuild' and we weren't aware of the extent of his issues is also another
Not sacking a coach who has been at the helm for five years when the club sits at 1 win, 1 draw, 11 losses at mid year (2018) and providing a circuit breaker and potentially opening the door to a multiple premiership winning coach is also strange and baffling if Clarko was still considering his options. If Richo was sacked I wonder what would have happened to Matty Finnis?
Brett Ratten would be a better choice than Brad Scott but maybe Brett's manager doesn't have the right connections

The OP is making a point about the boy's club/jobs-for-my-mates culture that seems to be prevailing at Moorabbin.
It's genuinely disturbing.
If it all fails spectacularly the purveyors will move in with fat bank balances.
St Kilda will be relocated to Tassie.

Re: Completing the picture....
Have said it previously on this site and will say it again our PROBLEM at St.Kilda is at TOP with the running of the club.
SS 1986 you are on the money with your comments.
As long as these guys are at the helm we will continue to be a JOB for the BOYS CLUB.
I love the club and have been a member for a very long time but seriously considering renewing next year with the direction the club is taking .
No wonder we cannot land A grade players at St.Kilda.
Appointing Scott will be the last straw for me alongwith signing up another player with a history of injuries.

Fair point as far as Im concerned. The Hanneberry deal was particularly suspect. No-one else giving him a second loik but we shell out 4 million?

Next logical question to this is how do we boot these frauds out? Or how do we get someone in who will take the longest broom possible?Laurie wrote: ↑Tue 25 Jun 2019 1:07am Have said it previously on this site and will say it again our PROBLEM at St.Kilda is at TOP with the running of the club.

I’ve got no doubt an aspect to it I’d that we are $12m in debt, AFL threatens to cut funding if we don’t comply with anything they say, therefore they put their own people in and it snowballs from there.
Now unless someone with money and balls comes in then it’ll keep continuing. Until we get on top of the financial situation we can’t stand up to it.
I’m sure Bassett would want to do something but his hamstrung or gagged by the AFL. Unless he (or someone financially capable) want to part with millions of his own cash it won’t happen.
We need an outspoken, genuinely passionate President with financial capabilities like Eddie Everywhere.
He’d put his last 5c into Collingwood if he had to.

The entire AFL industry is, and always has been, based on connections.
It's actually a positive that we're finally connected. We're finally part of the game.

Re: Completing the picture....
Yes but if those connections start to overrule common sense such as hiring a TEN YEAR FAILED COACH on the back of a SIX YEAR FAILED COACH because he is buddies with the football manager, then something has to give.
The way the club has been tracking over the past two years you have to question the powers that be at the top.
If Richardson gets the arse, then Finnis should probably go as well. Lethlean should be concerned about his own position.
We desperately need someone with the best interests of the club in control that can stop these guys using it as a vehicle for their own careers.
The more I think about it, the more I think we need Robert Harvey back. Something, anything St.Kilda to actually get some control back.
I cant help but think we are in complete free fall and the people at the top don't give a damn.

Our president is a mega rich self made dude, who would not be very tolerant of mediocrity in the running of his business.
Then there’s the two Old Xavs with a direct line to Gil, another hedgeburner.
Both having been installed by the AFL to get us back on track, and so that HQ is able to ok every decision made.
The problems being, they appear to believe that turning the Saints into another old boys club will do the job, but it doesn’t appear to be working.
Despite Bassat’s presidency being all cleared by HQ, I don’t think Bassat will get a chance to do too much until these guys improve the club as far as HQ is concerned, then there’ll be a hand over. But this may never happen in Bassat’s time as atm it looks like we’re set to go backwards again for a while.
Interesting times ahead.

Finnis should be the first person packing his bags...
If it wasnt for him, poor Richo wouldn’t even be in this humiliating situation. It’s piss poor management.

Re: Completing the picture....
It's a bit premature to judge the clubs's 2019 Board of Directors, after all, Andrew Bassat took over the presidency at the start of this year and I have every confidence that both he and his fellow directors are entirely independent when it comes to the appointment of senior staff in the football department.bigred wrote: ↑Tue 25 Jun 2019 9:48am Yes but if those connections start to overrule common sense such as hiring a TEN YEAR FAILED COACH on the back of a SIX YEAR FAILED COACH because he is buddies with the football manager, then something has to give.

Jack Rush QC is highly respected and a lifelong Saints supporter; I have not the slightest doubt that he and his fellow directors would ever let anything happen that is not in the best interests of the club and success of the team.
I'm also sure that they will be feeling just as disappointed about the way the team is playing as all Saints members and supporters, and we can rest assured that this will be a focus of their discussions whenever they meet.
I'm not sure if any of the footy media personalities such as Lloyd, Eade, Wallace, Carey etc have "inside information" with reports that AR's "papers are marked" - let's face it, in Melbourne the rumour mills spin furiously whenever they smell blood in the coaches waters, I personally doubt that they do, but time will tell.....
Obviously the coaches and players will be doing all they can this week to determine how the team can turn things around against Richmond - by all accounts this will be a "make or break" game for Alan Richardson and it will be up to the players to demonstrate their commitment to him in "Maddie's Match" on Sunday.
On the point of Robert Harvey riding in on a white horse to rescue his old footy club, that's sheer fantasy - I love him as much as anyone, he's a club legend, but to me he does not come across as a strong leader and doubt that he will ever get a gig as senior coach anywhere in the AFL. Personally my preference for senior coach is someone who has a commanding presence (still upset that GT engineered the dismissal of Malcolm Blight in 2001, an act of absolute bastardy) strong communicator and uncompromisingly hard task-master, which unfortunately is not what I have seen from AR.

I do feel sorry for AR in some respect as what hope has he got when the boys club is at the helm.
I do think Ratten will be appointed interim coach after the Geelong game only to hand over the reins to Scott at the end of the year.
