Appoint Ratten Now
He will be a senior coach somewhere next year no matter what. Best we get him now before we embarrass ourselves further.

Re: Appoint Ratten Now
But wasn't he there today? What's he doing at the moment to suggest we'll be any better.
And no, I'm not saying we don't need a change but is Ratten the answer?

Re: Appoint Ratten Now
Foxfooty interviewed him at 3/4 time. He was asked a direct question from Nicky Dal about what the Saints need to do to turn things around. All he could say was; how terrible his players were and that he'd never seen them play this badly.
Richo is a negative influence.
The answer is get rid of the head coach who has failed miserbaly
Ratten will be a better head coach. It's that simple

Re: Appoint Ratten Now
Happy for Ratten to take the reigns for the year, but being our forwards coach, and seeing how limp our forward line is playing, not sure he’s the right guy long term.

Re: Appoint Ratten Now
It wouldn’t matter who was either playing forward or coaching them. It’s a midfielders game and our midfield is the worst of any team in the AFL. It’s conceivable that theres never been a worse midfield in the modern era.
No 10 was comfortably our best player today and he’s not played in 9 months. That should tell you everything

He didn’t say that at all, you’re paraphrasing and poorly IMO to suit your point.Josh Battle wrote: ↑Sat 22 Jun 2019 9:50pm Foxfooty interviewed him at 3/4 time. What he said was that the midfield got well beaten by Neale and Zorko, and that was the worst performance he’s seen this season. Said they had to step up, and the team as a whole got beaten inside, outside, on the spread.
Thing is he wasn’t wrong. And there has been criticism of Richo tiptoeing or being vague about negatives. Regardless of how I feel about his coaching, I do think he was honest, and not unnecessarily negative.

Re: Appoint Ratten Now
Nothing wrong with our forwards. It's the entries that are the problem
I saw Membrey and Sincs kicking the footy to the forwards advantage, but can't recall too many others. Also saw Parker outmark Luke Hodge 1-1 which I thought was a great effort as well. Bruce led well as did Membrey but most of our entries seem to be plonked on their heads or to the opposition's advantage.
Generally our midfield is the area where we need to fix if we are going to climb up the ladder
Get team selection and gameplan fixed and just eliminate the negative influence

A banged up ex Swan comes straight in after 9 months and the class gap between he and our next best mid was obvious......we are in trouble.
Our list has more holes than Swiss cheese, lacks star power and can’t attract one.....
Our coach has the imagination of cardboard after 6 years....
We are middle of the road in the wilderness ...

Sorry he did say they need to step up. That's really not saying anything is it? His tone and his body language was awful
There was a whole thread (and I can't remeber who started it) but the op was stating that Richo has a habit of talking about what went wrong, but doesn't have the solutions and doesn't communicate well or motivate well enough to be able to turn things around.
We have good players and we have played some brilliant footy at times but it is rare instead of the standard drilled and expected each week

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Appoint Ratten Now
We have known for years that we lacked elite mids and nothing has changed.
We are going nowhere till we gain at least 2.
Hanners can be handy, but he is more of a linking mid and so without some guns you will not see his best.
Steele can hold up a spot.
Ross cannot as he simply butcher's the ball way too often.
If Steven comes back it should be as small forward and occassional impact mid.
Gresh I cannot see making it as a mid. He can be a great small forward though.

Re: Appoint Ratten Now
I don’t wish an end to anyone’s career. But - at a min of $400K pa ... my 2 Social Club memberships have contributed to him taking a min of $2.4M out of the club over the past 6 years.
I can’t imagine Richo getting even an assistants job in the AFL after this. It’s a small industry full of nepotism and whilst he’s a nice guy ... the rest of the industry knows he’s utterly useless ... 33% is proof of that.

Re: Appoint Ratten Now
OK so he tried and did not get us there. Thank you for your service.
I hate sacking coaches. We all invest so much into the damn club and it is just such a horrendous return. It is a horrible career to get into really.
Richo went perhaps two years too long. 2017 masked it somewhat. But just on the back of tonights loss, if the club does not make a move sooner, rather than later then we are never, ever going to get anywhere.
Our standards, as a club are just not high enough. Our standards, as supporters are not being met.
We have players that are just not up to the level, yet are given games where they do not deserve to be representing the club without proving consistent performance at reserve level.
I for one am just completely sick of it and so should everyone else. What we are seeing now is disrespectful.
Probably financially driven too, which stinks even more.
The larger, generally more successful clubs than us demand results that we just do not. Bassat needs to act and set that level. We are not hard arsed enough.
If Ratten can come up with a four year plan that was not full of fairy floss and cabbage then hire him on the spot. He has the record, the experience and probably the drive to do it.
If we dont win a flag before Carlton I'm gonna spew up.

We need one of these:
As ex-president Peter Summers said:

Ratten just can't do whatever he likes. The head cho needs to sign off on it. Now the head cho should just sign off.

Richo needs to take the job he was born for:
A Neil Balme-type uncle figure at Collingwood or some other club.

We need a circuit breaker
That's brilliant
Essendon acted early last year with immediate success and now Demons acted mid season with immediate success also

That's just it he was in that position at Port Adelaide........we pinched him and Koshy was spewing at the time.Waltzing St Kilda wrote: ↑Sun 23 Jun 2019 1:00am Richo needs to take the job he was born for:

A couple of years later we appointed Beveridge in the same job only to lose him to Footscray.
On the subject of Ratten he might not want interim coach job...may harm fulltime gig next year, he'll prob land one somewhere I would say.

Re: Appoint Ratten Now
Who cares about the person to take the interim coach role?
It doesn’t matter much given how far into the season we are and finals aren’t a realistic option.
Whilst I’d love Bassat to give AR the flick on Monday, I reckon they’ll do it after the Geelong game - assuming we lose our next 3.
At that point - finals will be almost impossible- even mathematically - and the trigger clause can be definitively invoked without any kickback from AR.
AR is coaching for his career - he will fight tooth and nail to keep his job for as long as possible.
