Just a suggestion... why dont they consider imposing separate seating zones at games e.g. a fan terrace (must be over 16-18 years to be in this area) and dedicated family zones for young families and less animated fans. Seems like an easy fix, could also bring back the glory days of old terrace and active fan areas at suburban grounds i.e The Animal enclosure. This is a commonly used strategy across European soccer grounds.

I’m pretty sure the cricket does this, as in there’s a ‘family zone’ where they don’t sell alcohol.

Just a suggestion... why dont they consider imposing separate seating zones at games e.g. a fan terrace (must be over 16-18 years to be in this area) and dedicated family zones for young families and less animated fans. Seems like an easy fix, could also bring back the glory days of old terrace and active fan areas at suburban grounds i.e The Animal enclosure. This is a commonly used strategy across European soccer grounds.

This bizarre occurrence in some way exemplifies Jeff Kennett's main worry- that the people employed to do crowd control do not know football! How else to explain the action of the security guard? If you have people with no experience of a football crowd, no experience as a fan now attempting to evaluate behaviour, judging who is right or wrong with any complaint and authorised to evict a paying patron then I can see a problem. It has nothing to do with nationality. Of course he expressed the idea poorly so his main point was lost, only for it to appear just as he suspected!

I know dozens of Indian and Asian people that were born here. Shock!

Looking at someone, and drawing conclusions about them based on their race, including their ability to do their job - is pretty much the definition of racist.

BarryGrogan, you can hide behind the racist accusation if you like, you will get no argument from me about your definition and I suspect Jeff also has had second thoughts about how he expressed his concern. BUT his concern insofar as I understand it was- what assurance do we, the paying public have that the people charged with crowd behaviour management have the understanding and skills to do so fairly.
In my estimation, the antics of the guard who attempted to rush onto the field suggest that he , at least, and in all likelihood some others (presuming they all went through the same employment screening) do not only not understand football but also do not understand their role.

Yeah, because European soccer is exactly the model we want to emulate!

Why wouldn't it be im? not sure if you've been to premier league or bundesliga game but the passion, atmosphere and fan engagement is significantly better than the AFL. We should at least try to take some positives from it.
