Lachlan Hosie
SANFL leading goalkicker Lachlan Hosie has met with St Kilda and looms as a possible replacement for Paddy McCartin in Monday’s night’s mid-season rookie draft...The Saints announced on Sunday that they had placed McCartin on the inactive list as he continues to struggle with concussion symptoms. That opened up a spot for St Kilda to use on Monday night. Hosie met with the Saints last week, while North Melbourne, who moved down to pick No. 5 on the back of their win over the Western Bulldogs, have also shown interest.
The 189 centimetre Hosie has kicked 21 goals in eight games for Glenelg this season, including two in a win over the Port Adelaide Magpies on Sunday.

Re: Lachlan Hosie
At 189 cms, he and Membrey would be our twin turretts - well, we can't call them twin towers.

Re: Lachlan Hosie
I know they've been doing well, but why can't we move just Marsh or Battle forward when our missing backs begin to return? No outside pace available?

True. I hope we don't, i don't see the use for a forward the same height as Membrey. When Carlisle returns (which isn't far away), then we have options.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Mon 27 May 2019 1:21pm Just because they met with him doesnt mean they'll pick him up

Re: Lachlan Hosie
We definitely need natural goal kickers and we have done well with other mature aged players recruited this season. Surely a bigger need is midifleders but we seem to recruit anything but.

Re: Lachlan Hosie
We need a ruck, a back up for Marshall. The cupboard is bare or at least filled with stock past its use by date.
This year's draft / trade period should only be about fast, outside, goal kicking mids.
Like our HBF position our HFF position is also becoming plentiful, fingers crossed some of them work out.

Re: Lachlan Hosie
I saw him first hand and up close in the GWS game playing as a forward.
He was so bad, he got dropped the next week.
He is definitely not a natural forward.

Re: Lachlan Hosie
Fair enough, but was recruited at Collingwood as a half forward, the position he played for East Freo.

(a) The best outside ball carrying mid currently in form at any of the State Leagues; or
(b) The best mobile ruckman currently in form at any of the State Leagues
Am I missing something?

Re: Lachlan Hosie
Jack Mayo...19 year old, 50 goal lead-up forward at 192cm, explosive pace and a good leap, pinch hits occasionally in ruck...sounds pretty good. Hawks and Freo are looking at him...I'm not sure whether I like the sound of him as much as the concept of nicking a forward from under the Hawks noses!

Re: Lachlan Hosie
IMO HFF is our biggest weakness.
However I will be surprised if we do not select a genuine ruck in the draft. With Longer and Pierce now both out with concussion we have no back-ups for Marshall if he goes down injured. Alabakis is way too raw.

Re: Lachlan Hosie
How many half back flankers, ruckmen and inside midfielders can we afford to carry in our salary cap?
For instance ...
10 half back flankers even at $200,000 per annum each = $2 million per year - which is a lot of money considering we're only ever going to be playing two - the best two.
Same with ruckmen - we're only ever going to play one ruckman.
Same with inside midfielders - you only need 2 inside midfielders.
Duplication costs money... and it means you're going for quantity over quality.
I'd rather we go after the big fish - target and recruit quality - just like the Hawks and other successful sides are doing.
The machinegun recruiting approach where you end up with multiple C graders chews up as much of your salary cap money as the targeting of quality A grade players approach would.

Re: Lachlan Hosie
People have to be realistic, this isn’t the national draft, these are guys that have been overlooked for years. You aren’t going to find a classy outside mid.
But you might find a forward or athletic big who was a late bloomer.

Except for the teenage forward mentioned above...who kicked 4 goals on the weekend in the WAFL.The_President wrote: ↑Mon 27 May 2019 5:28pm People have to be realistic, this isn’t the national draft, these are guys that have been overlooked for years. You aren’t going to find a classy outside mid.

Re: Lachlan Hosie
OK, I've only just starting looking into this.
From what I can see this doesn't overly impress me. Happy to look further into it and stand corrected.
He plays for Glenelg who are on top of the SANFL ladder.
One would think, lots of opportunity.
He avergages 2 goals a game in a league possibly comparable to the VFL in a club atop the ladder ?
He's 189 cm and 78 kg.
78 kg.
How's Winx going ? Goal average after three games ? Pretty close to the same.
Possibly get a go with the Saints before Lachie ?
I reckon.
Isn't there some smokie midfielder available somewhere to roll the dice on ?
That's what we need more than a forward.

Am I missing something?
Carlton grabbed mid
Gold Coast grabbed a mid
Melbourne grabbed a mid
Sydney grabbed a ruckmen Michael Knoll - St Kilda wanted
North grabbed a medium forward Lachlan Hosie - St Kilda were interested
Western grabbed a tall key position
Essendon grabbed a mid
St Kilda grabbed a full forward prospect to replace McCartin who will never ever ever play again.
What you missed is the detail called "draft order".
St Kilda had pick 8 in this mid season draft.
The best midfielders and ruckman were taken before our pick.
St Kilda took next best available for our needs.
