Filthy Cold Pies Are Due for a Loss
Did anyone see the Filth against Carlton on Saturday? They pretty much fell over the line.
I'm calling it, we will upset their rotten apple cart next week. I seriously like our chances. At the MCG, where many of our lads seem to enjoy the wide open spaces and Richo's game plan is better suited.
Marshall will give Grundy more than he'll bargain for. Membrey will kick a bag, with Gresham and Steele running amok. Brown will be solid against his old side. We'll roll right over those pricks.
Let's get behind the lads. They have been showing plenty of hear this year and are deserving of our support.
Go get 'em, Sainters!!

Re: Filthy Cold Pies Are Due for a Loss
We tried to slow down our game tonight, take our time, choose carefully, but execution fell short.
If anyone thinks we can turn things around in 7 days, they're dreaming.
The Filth has Sidebottom, Treloar, De Goey, the whole squad has skill that we can't match.
Effort can go a long way, but lack of skill just can't be hidden.

Didn’t I read on this forum that for sure we’d bounce back this week?

I’d be delighted if we can get as close as Carlton did.
Can’t imagine our centre clearance work can be any better than it was vs Eagles, and the Pies are quaiity - they won’t play poorly twice in a a row

Re: Filthy Cold Pies Are Due for a Loss
Far be it for me to rain on anybody's parade but I think we have to be realistic. We couldn't beat a struggling Adelaide outfit over here, or a Giants side that lost to Freo easily at home, and now we get touched up by a team on the road whose current form has been patchy at best and people think we are any sort of chance to beat Collingwood on the MCG next week?!? No way - the team are back to their old habits, which is strange because there are a lot of new faces there this season.
This bombing it high and slow into the forward line giving our forwards no chance should not be happening in 2019. It doesn't matter how many injuries we have, the players out there should lower their eyes and kick to a specific player. It is coaching and it is player development, or lack thereof. They must be told to do this because they do it most weeks when we lose and it never rates a mention in press conferences. The other issue is our conversion which doesn't seem to improve no matter what noises come out of the club about specialist goalkicking or forward coaches. That is recruiting.
I have an idea - play a second ruckman and allow Bruce, Acres, and Marshall/resting ruckman to stay in our forward line so that they can provide a marking option and so that they are not exhausted from running around like Brown's cows when they do line up for goal.
The other thing is our midfielders need to take some responsibility for creating options which result in goals - they should be kicking them themselves for a start.
Forget beating Collingwood at the MCG - won't happen. Worry about Carlton the week after, because with the personnel we have not available that could get ugly and that is the game we must be expected to win, and win well.
However, in the interests of balance; I will say that this block of matches against the 2017 Grand Finalist, 2018 Premier, 2018 unlucky Grand Finalist, 2018 Preliminary Finalist and 2017 Premilnary Finalists, was always going to be a very difficult block to negotiate, and so far there have been no blowouts.

Re: Filthy Cold Pies Are Due for a Loss
Our forward line pressure looks to have dropped off since Lonie got injured.
Tackles arent sticking around the ground, I lost count of how many missed tackles there were last night against the Eagles
Ross blazes away without looking at least 50% of the time, and the other 50% of the time he is at best 50/50 chance to hit a target.
Too many players still missing gettable goals
Long and Parker doing less and less every week and Kent just cant execute the basic skills of the game well enough or consistently enough to hurt the opposition
I am not a huge Geary fan but clearly missing his leadership in the backline
Clearly not kicking enough goals per game and sadly lacking another key forward who can consistently take a strong contested mark and kick 2 or more goals a game (kudos to Bruce last night he was good in that area after 1/4 time)

Lonie was close to our best player in the final six rounds of last season. He has been a massive loss this season. His missing is a major reason for our decline in form.

Re: Filthy Cold Pies Are Due for a Loss
They kicked five goals in the last of the qtr to kill the contest, so hardly fell over the line. Nevertheless, if we are on, and with their outs, we are a chance.Sainternist wrote: ↑Sun 12 May 2019 1:32am Did anyone see the Filth against Carlton on Saturday? They pretty much fell over the line.

Re: Filthy Cold Pies Are Due for a Loss
I think they smashed the hell out of us when the game was on the line.
We just laid down. Really abysmal.
What's really bad - they actually humiliated us, pulling out the party tricks. We seem content to take it.
That's four losses in a row now. We're 4-5.

Re: Filthy Cold Pies Are Due for a Loss
Much as I dsilike quoting myself, here we are again. No blowout and we led them into the third quarter but despite them having a long injury list, as GWS did, they still won easily. I think the time has come to drop a lot of the old reliables and play those, like Hind, White, and Coffield next week against Carlton and see what they can do. I would also play a legitimate second ruckman to try to clear some space around ruck contests for the mids to run through. Our scoring has really dried up anyway so AR really needs to shake things up and fast, otherwise we are in danger of losing next week. In two of the next three rounds we have winnable matches against opponents who on paper at least would look to have superior talent in the middle of the ground. Lose next week and the pressure will be really on, from the bootstudder to the kids who sell the footy records outside the ground.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Sun 12 May 2019 9:33am Far be it for me to rain on anybody's parade but I think we have to be realistic. Re: Filthy Cold Pies Are Due for a Loss
We effectively had kicked ourselves out of the game at three quarter time. I thought we had done enough to be 4 or 5 goals in front by then, but, sadly, our inability to convert proved to be the difference. The lads looked spent in that last quarter. Once the Pies slammed on a few goals in little time, they were demoralised and it was all but over. A three quarter time 4 or 5 goal lead is what we needed for us to get up in the end. That 41 point victory really flattered the Filth and wasn't a true reflection on our efforts.twirlyhair wrote: ↑Sat 18 May 2019 2:02pmThey kicked five goals in the last of the qtr to kill the contest, so hardly fell over the line.
