Richo's Trigger Clause
"On the Couch" reckon that Richo's trigger clause is that we have to win one final and he gets a contract extension for next year otherwise it is up to the club if they keep him on. Injuries may help his cause though.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Sounds fair to me. He’s had plenty of time to show his stuff.
It is true, though, that he hasn’t been dealt a great hand with injuries this season.

Re: Richo's Trigger Clause
He needs to begin developing our high end talent like Clark and Coffield. Up until now, he hasn't displayed evidence that he can. He will be judged on which players come through this season rather than finals IMO.

I thought there was a trigger at Rd 6...

So if we make the finals, will some supporters be hoping we lose in the first week?

Re: Richo's Trigger Clause
Let's face it, the air of malaise at the club is what's preventing us landing big names.
A failure to make the finals this year (highly likely) would probably make a fresh start mandatory, regardless of the excuses.

Seem to have developed pretty well under the reigns of Richo for some examples. All senior players.
Development never purely comes down to a senior AFL coach anyway. It's a club process and guys like McGlynn play a vital role in this area.

Re: Richo's Trigger Clause
Well, that is subject to opinion. The reality of the situation we find ourselves in is this; the club no longer has legitimate champions like Riewolt, Montagna, Goddard, Dal Santo, Harvey, Hayes, Milne, Hammil, Gehrig or Hudghton any more on our list, so I would expect that all on-field positions, especially key position roles, are up for grabs, and that we should be getting more games into the kids rather than playing the old reliables - particularly in an era where we have had one winning season and no finals in six years.Cairnsman wrote: ↑Tue 07 May 2019 7:43amHe is.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Mon 06 May 2019 10:56pm He needs to begin developing our high end talent like Clark and Coffield. High draft picks should be getting blocks of games similar to what we started doing during due to injuries in the last six games last year, and not losing patience with players after one or two games, such as what has been happening with Freeman, Acres and Coffield up to now.
This season should not just be about trying to make finals, but development of players for the future. Having now also lost Webster with a broken hand means that injury-wise we are in as bad a situation as Essendon was during 2016 (probably worse as they brought in ex-premiership players with lots of experience to carry them through) and we will be doing very well to win nine matches this season should this situation not improve in the mid-term.
It is on this that AR should be marked at season's end, not games won or finals played.

Stuv is a genuine star of the game. You don't fluke the Trevor Barker medal four times in your career. Unlucky not to have earnt an All Australian medal (made it in the squad of 40 in 2013 and 2016). https://www.saints.com.au/news/2017-07- ... tar-steven
Dal Santo and Joey and Maxy were great players for our club but history will show Jack Steven is unquestionably a bona fide champion (and a more consistent player and matchwinner imo)

I still think both Richo and the club need to take different directions at the send of the season.

Re: Richo's Trigger Clause
The trigger for Richo to be let go will be when a champion of the club calls for his sacking.
Just guessing, but I'm channelling round 16 after another embarrassing loss to North Melbourne

Yep - because he isn't playing at the moment I hadn't factored him in. And he is my son's favourite player too. That was a mistake on my part. He's a champion all right!Scollop wrote: ↑Tue 07 May 2019 11:09amMight have been an oversight by you but what about Jack Steven?samuraisaint wrote: ↑Tue 07 May 2019 10:41am... Re: Richo's Trigger Clause
Well...I'd be incredibly annoyed if Carlton swooped in and picked up a big name coach ahead of us, because Bolton's sure to be gone before Cho. A Blues supporter I was talking to a few weeks back tells me they will getting Ratten back. I guess misguided dribble is what you get when you talk to a Blues supporter.Waltzing St Kilda wrote: ↑Tue 07 May 2019 12:28am Let's face it, the air of malaise at the club is what's preventing us landing big names.

I thought the clause was that he would get fired after he triggered a certain number of supporters??!!

Re: Richo's Trigger Clause
Thank Gawd…...the last thing we need is the loss of another accomplished defender.
At our current rate we won't be able to field a full 22 players within about two weeks!! Been a horrendous start to the year injury wise......

From saints.com.au
"Jimmy Webster still has a fighting chance to play in Saturday night’s clash against the West Coast Eagles.
It was feared that the important defender had broken his hand in last round’s game against the Giants.
Webster will undergo further tests this week to determine his availability for the Round 8 clash with the Eagles after scans cleared him for any break."

Re: Richo's Trigger Clause
Someone who might have mentioned it (and I apologise if I got this wrong) was tony74.
He's been a little quiet lately.
Right after Rd 3, he said the players were very unhappy with how they played and wanted to correct it.
Been absent since.
He may have mentioned the trigger clause

Huh, I thought we had one of the youngest lists in the AFL. Who are these "old reliables" you speak of that should be dropped so their spot should be gifted to a development experiment?samuraisaint wrote: ↑Tue 07 May 2019 10:41amWell, that is subject to opinion. Is it possible the selection committee struggles with deciding if they should play a 3 foot forward with 3 games of experience in the backline?
