Petrecca nearly drowns

Post: # 1788752Post tedtheodorelogan2018 »

Wtf.

Bad stuff.

Sounds like the Crows pre-season camp that went way too far.

They were doing oxygen training underwater in a pool with heavy medicine balls. Instructor had to apparently jump in and rescue him as he didn't surface.

Running is old school. Must be outdated apparently to get your aerobic fitness up.

30 years ago (or back in Darrell Baldock's day) the grounds for training and the playing surfaces were soft and muddie in winter. Gone are the days where a bloke like Banger used to do 100's of miles on the streets of Frankston during the week

These days they play and train on rock hard grounds so you have to manage their km's on their feet. Otherwise a lot of the heavier blokes like Petracca will be getting foot injuries, bone stress injuries, etc.

It's not uncommon. Has been done for yonnies. Free divers and big wave surfers regularly train by carrying large rocks and running along the ocean floor.

Pretty harmless... Drop the rock and surface when you run out of breath. As Scollop said, builds lung capacity without the stress on the body. Something else obviously happened under there.

Glad we didn't take him - Imagine a #1 pick who does not know how to surface for air!

Cue Paddy v Tractor debate - lol!

But seriously - footy training should not be life-threatening.

As Malcolm Blight once famously opined - 'last time I looked there weren't any swimming pools on footy grounds.'

Surely he played at Moorabbin.

over blown the guy panicked under water, was watched by multiple qualified life guards and was never in danger or "nearly drowned"

Breathe and remember which was is up. Tough ask. Good on whoever threw him the dummy, though; he was possibly waiting for the O2 mask to drop.

He forgot to have his orange-carrot-ginger-tumeric & flaxseed juice before he went under

For those that missed it, there was segment on Roamimg Brian last night which highlighted this particular drink.

I reckon he probably needs to stay off the fried food and stop eating pasta 14 x a week.

Tom Brown on 7 said that there'd be ramifications from the incident and he was implying they pushed players too hard too quickly. Tom likened it a bit to the Adelaide preseason camp of 2018 and that perhaps the Melbourne coaches and management were pushing the players beyond what was reasonable.

You know what he eats everyday of the week? And not sure how you landed on pasta for a start....

Not good enough from a pro footy club. Sport isn't the real world nor is it life or death stuff. Disappointing.

Thanks Satchmo, I've learnt something new. Yes my mileage does vary. I am very disappointed and saddened for Paddy as I would be for any person in his situation.

I am also disappointed in our return from a #1 pick, at this stage Melbourne are in front with their selection at #2, that gap will grow due to circumstance unfortunately.

this is easy to do,
because once you use up all your O2, you become disoriented and the brain goes all fuzzy.
He was holding firmly onto the medicine ball, so when the brain went woozy, he couldn't just let go.
