Though of all the available players, given who we have on our list the player I would want the most is Coniglio.

Re: Saints hunting Adam Tomlinson and Jack Martin
CONIGLIO is a super star we won’t get that level of player GWS has been raped they will keep most of their elite players don’t forget the AFL need this team to succeed they won’t let them become a basket case.
Players like Tomlinson and Martin are the level that is achievable for us to secure and will be easier to manage the salary cap pressure when our list has hit its prime...

Re: Saints hunting Adam Tomlinson and Jack Martin
This is a good strategy.
Put the early pressure on GWS to sign Tomlinson.
Either they keep him and others in the same tier and lose a superstar or two, or lose him and keep superstars like JKelly and Coniglio.
Either way, someone gets squeezed out, and St Kilda is looking more and more attractive with every win.
Also, unrestricted free agent. Absolutely no draft/player cost, just cash. We have a bit of that left over these days.

I thought that Lachie Whitfield was the one we'd be throwing everything at, and what a get he would be - what a player! Doesn't he become a free agent at the end of the year?

We won’t be in a good trading position. No second round I think and our first pick at 18. And there’s some academy kids and father sons we might want to bid for.

Heard a rumour also that the sheik of tweek from Brighton might be joining the club in some capacity. Whoa again.

Haven’t we been “going hard” at star players with our “war chest” for the last few years? I’ll believe it when I see them run out in the red white and black.

The difference is that we're fast becoming a destination club the way we're playing.

Re: Saints hunting Adam Tomlinson and Jack Martin
Grab Tomlinson as a Free Agent. This is the best option. Martin might be good but from a list perspective I would rather use our first pick on the best youngster. Net result is Tomlinson for the now and the youngster for 2022 and beyond. This is how you build a strong list.
If possible, we should grab a Free Agent every year (Salary cap permitting).

GWS raped themselves.Vazelos wrote: ↑Wed 24 Apr 2019 6:26pm CONIGLIO is a super star we won’t get that level of player GWS has been raped they will keep most of their elite players don’t forget the AFL need this team to succeed they won’t let them become a basket case.
Players like Tomlinson and Martin are the level that is achievable for us to secure and will be easier to manage the salary cap pressure when our list has hit its prime...
They lost their Sydney cost of living bonus and were way over the salary cap anyhow.
The only way they could relieve the pressure was to do "a St Kilda".
We off loaded Goddard, Dal Santo even after Ball offloaded himself, to free up salary space.
GWS has been struggling with their salary cap for years now.
They have had so many first round draft picks.
For a few years now they have given away players in return for first round draft picks.
Unlike St Kilda they don't stuff up their first round draft picks but it does mean they eventually are faced with players who demand top dollar for being top players.
Their failure to win premierships is not due to the lack of player quality it is due to pathetic coaching especially in defence and defensive pressure around the ground.

I trust you mean pick 18 ahead of free agency compensation and trade period.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Thu 25 Apr 2019 9:52am We won’t be in a good trading position. No second round I think and our first pick at 18. And there’s some academy kids and father sons we might want to bid for.
That pick 18 if retained would probably become pick 23 given compensation picks, academy and father-son priority picks by other clubs.

"This year’s top free agency target Stephen Coniglio will have crucial talks on his future next month as clubs including Hawthorn, St Kilda and Carlton circle.
Coniglio, 25, has bolstered his reputation as one of the best two-way midfield runners in the game as part of a blistering start to the season.
Greater Western Sydney remains confident Coniglio will re-sign on a long-term deal to stay at the club after previously inking a series of two-year contracts."
