The Price of our Backline
Another awesome effort by our backline, had me thinking what we paid for them .. s
Here is our back seven for the day, six as named plus Paton on the rotation:
Webster (pick 42) Brown (delisted free agent) Savage (steaknives in McEvoy trade)
Wilkie (rookie) Battle (pick 39) Geary (rookie)
plus Paton (pick 46)
That is one cheap backline... but they were fantastic to a man again today

Re: The Price of our Backline
Brown was very good today. It was important to start well. Brown stood up in that first quarter and outpositioned his opponents. Also showed good leadership and defended well for the remainder of the game.
Jimmy and Shane are brilliant distributors and both work extremely hard both ways, defending and attacking
Gears as always was a desperado and he leads and inspires
Wilkie is top 4 I think with intercept marks
Battle never shirks a contest and young Paton has surprised me with his decision making, poise and disposal efficiency
Very healthy competition for spots with Jake and a few others sure to be pushing for selection when they are fit

They most certainly were.
Wilkie and Paton are great finds.

Re: The Price of our Backline
Good post. A unit that is more than the sum of its parts.
Still reckon people overlook how valuable Brown is at marshalling the troops. Far more valuable than stats suggest.

Re: The Price of our Backline
And its missing its two best players in Carlise and Robbo. Battle has flown under the radar a bit but man, he's solid in the contest.
Theyre playing as a unit and its beautiful to watch.

Re: The Price of our Backline
value for money it is harder to find better back men than Brown and Wilkie. Not saying either are BOG but my god they do their job and for the price we paid they are steals.
On that note Parker cost sweat FA as well and we still have Hind and Young to come in. Assuming no injures then its hard to change the team but nice to have serious depth

Re: The Price of our Backline
Can add Marsh and Joyce to Hind and Young in the short term and maybe Carlisle, King and Hannerberry down the track also the younger brigade of Clarke, Coffield, Clavarino and Langlands but we do need backup for Marshall. I don't think Sam Rowe is likely to get a game so best to look at replacing him if we can uncover a mobile ruckman in the mid season draft

Re: The Price of our Backline
Brown - unbreakable today. An absolute colossus. Looks fit, looks as good as he has EVER looked.
Wilkie - this guy just doesn't make a mistake. Unflappable.
Battle - tough. He's still developing and he'll become a seriously good swing man in the years ahead.
Geary - at his best in this game plan, where he just has to throw himself around and lead by example.
Savage - it's a thankless task, everyone looks at him as getting cheap ball. But he isn't turning it over and either finds a man or gets us out of trouble.
Webster - I've been a critic, but he is doing enough to justify his place.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Re: The Price of our Backline
It's a blue collar backline. Nothing fancy nor big wages, but they play like it's their last pay check each week at the moment. That might be exaggerating things but you know what I mean.
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Re: The Price of our Backline
Hope you are right Curly but pretty sure it was made clear at his presser that this is a long term thing and any resumption will depend on the medicos rather than his hopes.

I want to see 211 cm Sam Alabakis standing in the centre circle.BadRossco wrote: ↑Sat 20 Apr 2019 9:55pm Can add Marsh and Joyce to Hind and Young in the short term and maybe Carlisle, King and Hannerberry down the track also the younger brigade of Clarke, Coffield, Clavarino and Langlands but we do need backup for Marshall.
