Dixon's goal kicking predictions for us ...

"Ultimately last year, the stats weren’t ideal, because we were still down towards the bottom in terms of set shots. I was happy to wear that."
“But from an individual point of view, if I sat down and showed you how the technique has changed, I think you’d see significant improvement. That’s what I expect this year.
“The signs are definitely positive coming into this season, and we’ve seen that in the pre-season, but it’s another thing coming into round one when there’s four points on the line.” ...

So he taught the players the wrong technique in 2018?

What’s the point of ‘good technique’ if it doesn’t go through the sticks?!
I’d hate to know how much money we’ve wasted on this <edited by mods>...

Re: Dixon's goal kicking predictions for us ...
Maybe the players had ingrained bad habits that take a year to discard.
He's seen them buy into the new way over this summer, and expects them to be more consistent
with the correct technique.
I hope so.
With the club doing an extensive review, (except Richo!)
they think Dixon deserves another year, even though we were horrible under him.
I saw no improvement myself, but I'm not an insider.

Re: Dixon's goal kicking predictions for us ...
Stats will improve if only for Mav not taking shots and Steele, Kent, Long and Clark taking more. Real improvement will come from hitting targets 40m or less out that are not gasping, i.e. field kicking. Shots under pressure from tight angles by players with little composure has been a killer. Gresham nutmeg technique is interesting though and Dixon's rationale would be good to hear.

Billings technique is not great. Holds the ball on an angle all the time when lining up. Should go back and watch some tapes of Ahmed Saad because if there's one thing I learned from watching him, was that if you hold the ball straight it will go straight.

Peter Hudson had a bad technique with that awkward stuttering run-up.
If only Ben Dixon had been around in those days to sort him out.

Re: Dixon's goal kicking predictions for us ...
The article mentioned that Skunk is a pupil of Dixon.
Hmm.
Last yr, when Membrey had his yips, the club said Skunk was NOT one of the disciples!
I was at the WCE game when his radar returned n he got 6.
The club wasn't being truthful last year about Skunk learning from Dixon?
Look, he's one of our best kicks, why not leave him alone?
If it ain't broke...

13.7.
Our goal kicking was actually excellent. If we go at that roughly 65% percentage nearly every week then you give yourself a massive chance.
Kent's clutch goal was massive in the last qtr.

Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Lonie's last set shot- while he was lining up, one commentator said 'for those at home, the roof's open and the wind is swirling around'...so cannot blame him for missing it, i think wind took it.tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Mon 25 Mar 2019 12:49pm 13.7.

Yep, Looked like it. Being a shorty, his ball drop would be less than a tall forward, so you'd imagine less movement by the wind.saynta wrote: ↑Mon 25 Mar 2019 1:48pmYep, Looked like it. And playing at very windy VFL grounds, like Williamstown, etc, he probably should be used to it?

Re: Dixon's goal kicking predictions for us ...
After four games we have one less goal than our opposition (42-43) from 17 more scoring shots (91-74). This still remains a massive issue and has already cost us a win in 2019.

Re: Dixon's goal kicking predictions for us ...
Yep, massive issue. Players should be having a couple of hundred shots a week at training until they improve on game day. Doesn’t need to be over complicated.

Re: Dixon's goal kicking predictions for us ...
I think the snaps for goal and the attempts on the run from impossible angles add to the bad accuracy data.
Some of the problems stem from poor decision making rather than anything else. Discipline and coaching instruction will probably assist rather than Dicko.

The goal kicking has got a L-O-N-G way to go in order for us to call it as "improved". However, I'm prepared to give the guys the benefit of my support as they battle to improve.

Re: Dixon's goal kicking predictions for us ...
If we look at our stats a little more deeply:
The season so far
St Kilda = 42G 49 B
Opponents = 43G 31 B
Last week we kicked 9.12 vs 11.5. Kick straighter then and we win.
We need to be more accurate than we are still. But we are improving.

Re: Dixon's goal kicking predictions for us ...
Our Goal kicking is pathetic
We should be undefeated on top with a decent percentage.
Should have beaten gc by 3 goals
Ess by 5
Freo by a couple and the same for the hawks .
