Re: Blake Acres
Think we have completely mismanaged him and he’s out the door.. said since the start he’s a potential A grader with Billing’s and Gresh and it’s coming to fruition. This guy is a stud

Re: Blake Acres
It was a real breakout game from him and a second half that showed exactly what he is capable of.
I’d prefer him in an on-ball role other than ruck, but at least that is better than putting him where the ball aint.
That many score involvements is indicitive of only elite players.
Lets hope the penny drops with Richo, finally, that the guy is a potential gun midfielder ... but I wouldn’t count on it.
Acres is a blind spot for him. The coach needs to show some confidence in him as it is hard to produce your best for someone who doesn’t appear to rate you.

Re: Blake Acres
At 190 cm, mobile, strong and athletic he could be a beast in the middle who would give opposition coaches match up headaches.
I have liked him form the start and desperate for him to take the next step, it could be happening all at the same time with Gresham Billings and Ross flying at the moment.

Re: Blake Acres
Actually (and I have had similar thoughts to yours) it seems that the coach has kept him well grounded when you sit back and think about it. Blake hasn't been drinking from his own bath, and if you remember he was inclined to be that way early in his career.PADDLEPOP1001 wrote: ↑Sun 14 Apr 2019 8:12pm The Blacres is a gun ,has X factor & if he gets a run at it will be a very good player for us,underrated by the coach the way he gets treated!Always has a lot of score involvements!
What I saw on Sunday was the natural progression of several of those types i.e. Billings, Acres, Ross, Savage, Lonie and Newnes finally starting to understand what it takes. Just on that, Savage has been a very important piece in that picture, he's gone under the radar somewhat, but I am enjoying watching him play as much as any one on our list.

Re: Blake Acres
This makes a lot of assumptions about the relationship between player and coach and the things Blake may/may not have been asked to work on. Another way of looking at it is that Richo has developed him beautifully to the point where he's now really able to start having an impact.bigcarl wrote: ↑Wed 17 Apr 2019 2:40amIt was a real breakout game from him and a second half that showed exactly what he is capable of.

Such as concentrating on the things players cannot do rather than the things they can do, as the captain said of the coach.freely wrote: ↑Wed 17 Apr 2019 10:29amThis makes a lot of assumptions about the relationship between player and coach and the things Blake may/may not have been asked to work on. I think if the club treats Blake the same as we treated Hickey he'll probably be doing the same as Hickey if an opportunity presents itself out Westbigcarl wrote: ↑Wed 17 Apr 2019 11:10amSuch as concentrating on the things players cannot do rather than the things they can do, as the captain said of the coach.freely wrote: ↑Wed 17 Apr 2019 10:29amThis makes a lot of assumptions about the relationship between player and coach and the things Blake may/may not have been asked to work on. How is it that one minute, you are having an outstanding year and your actions and deeds earn you the respect and plaudits from everyone in the industry - especially opposition coaches as per his BOG performance https://www.saints.com.au/news/2016-07- ... -to-hickey
And all of a sudden 12 months later the coach is questioning your value publicly and there are insinuations from some that 'the game has gone past you'? If the team was flying you'd have faith in the coach's call, but 2018 was disastrous coaching on many fronts and there has never been and there still isn't any serious consideration given to providing our No.1 ruck with any support from a genuine second ruck combo.
If Richo didn't have a bias towards a supposedly stronger (which might just mean he's carrying more weight) and meaner looking ruckman, perhaps Tom Hickey would have continued providing excellent service in 2017 and beyond to his club rather than being shunned.

He is a beast and can play in multiple positions. Provides a difficult match up for the opposition.
The lackadaisical looking pass to Bruce was interesting.
Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.

Re: Blake Acres
Not huge numbers from Blake, but his ability to impact a game is huge. He's looked confident the last couple of weeks. His ability to stand up in a tackle and find an option is unreal.

Good today. Reliable. Bulls his way through tackles. Class with ball in hand.
We forget how interrupted his preseason was.
The slow burn is very enjoyable to watch.

Great player.
Looks like a man out there now, like Billings and Sinclair from the same draft.
